Look! You have played this game long enough to realize this already. If you want to train dive bombers, you don't go RN. If you want to go armor whoring you don't do IJN. Every nation has shortcomings and that is by design. 

What do these US and UK subs do? They put it there for the sake of consistency:every nations has SS. They are not meant to be used.

 

I can say with experience that RN SS1s are pathetic.

As a UK SS player, we're making a comeback watch out. 

Talking an aweful lot of shit about us subs eh..

They fit in that special category called average.  Not bad, not special, but effective if used properly.  Frustrating with the duds, but pretty sturdy and useful.
