I agree with min012, although to a slightly lesser extent.
Just 1 or 2 days notice before an event does a couple of things that would be beneficial:
♦ It allows people to plan ahead of time, around their daily lives, and when they'd be able to play (without loading the website every couple of hours, which could possibly be an advantage in itself due to getting less network traffic). More people will join in events if they know they're coming ahead of time. The first day of "Spring Event 2" is a perfect example of an event with no announcement whatsoever before it began...and thus, nobody played skirmish at all for the first 4-6 hours of it (at least partially because nobody knew about it beforehand).
♦ It allows the building of 'hype'. This can go both ways, because people can irrationally become dissappointed with events, but people seem to do that anyways from what I've seen the last few days...("events aren't what they used to be, like back in 2006" Im sorry what? lol). Hype, simply put, gets people more involved in the game, makes them plan to play for longer periods of time, and if people investing their time into the game isn't what these events are for....what is?

Events, like the last, sometimes aren't announced at all before they begin. Checking the site every hour or two is a waste of everyone's time (the people who'd be silly enough to do it, and the NF team who might end up having to pay for more bandwith on the other end)

That is specifically why I would suggest that events have a minimum 1 day's notice before they start, because we have lives!
