Open up the laptop, and see for yourself.

the only test there is for your internal fan is to open up and test it with a multimeter to see if there is a disruption/problem with its connection to the motherboard

and another suggestion, it would be advisable to let the emachines company check your laptop to avoid further damage

there is a piece of free software out there called speed fan it monitors sensors inbedded into you mother board....You should download it and if your run it and you notice your temps are above 70c then ummm you really need to take your laptop in for a fan replacement as well as a cleaning....

However you may just need a cleaning as you may be getting heat off dirty heat sinks or clogged vents.

I have both speedfan and coretemp programs. Really very very little dust was in it.

The fan seems to kick on, but runs slowly (slower then normal). This all started after it shut off one night and retarted on its own. I tried the active and passive settings and no change in fan.

Oh well i have a cooing pad under it and it seems to be working.

Thanks for the reply's worth reading unlike the first reply.

i contacted emachines and they wanted $200 + shipping to send it to them for repair. You can buy this laptop for that price now (its a year old). I'll prob take it to a local shop to replace fan if it heats up again. Its running a nice 39/39 now and around 40-49 when playing games(some times in the 50ies). I have coretemp set to pop up a window when it runs above 65 core temp.

Thanks for reply.

those temps are well within the standards for your laptop....However try this...Take a wet dry vac and cover 80% of the nozzle...then suck out everything from the vents. This will not damage the fan as it turns in that direction and you would be surprised how much you can get out this way....after doing this I noted some 7 degree temp changes....so may help you...Also it seems the game under the last patch regained some measure of stability so it may just be that is why your not hearing your fan as much...Good way to test this is to try and play a game that is more intensive on system requirements.....I would recommend some however the forum mods seem to take offense if you mention another game on here so lets not do that.
