  • why were titanic victims (mostly) buried in nova scotia?

yeah, so, question in the title... i know it was obviously closer to take them
back from where the ships had originally came from that carried the dead,
but would one not think for all intent and purposes that for the majority of
the grieving families they would want them buried more closely to home,
like england for example? the ships had packed them of ice n stuff as
well so it wasnt like they would rot too quickly....

and yes ive googled but just cant find any actual reason stating *why* they
decided to bury them there...

I'm sure most of the passengers on board were either American or Canadian, but what you have to remember is that most of the victims were actually unknown and couldn't be identified.

An interesting read - http://museum.gov.ns.ca/mma/titanic/victims.htm

Those that were successfully recovered from the Atlantic were taken back to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where a temporary morgue was set up in a curling rink to aid families in the identification and claiming of the remains of loved ones. A small percentage of these bodies were successfully identified and claimed by families for burial. Many more were either unclaimed and/or identified and were buried in several local cemeteries in Canada. Those who were unidentified were buried under grave markers that often listed only a body number and date of death (April 15, 1912).

That was taken from a Yahoo Answers page.

also reason was that the relatifes had to take then back to europe... so most of the ppl didn't had money to bring them back for a proper funeral.
this you also can find in a docu show about the real Jack Dawson
