Greatdiver, I had this same problem.

Right click on the Navyfield Icon (before you open the game) and select the settings tab.

you need to change the compatibility mode to Windows 7

once this is done. open navyfield like normal and should fix the issue.

i would crash every other game like clockwork until I changed this setting.

There is no Settings Tab on the Steam Navyfield icon.

Crashing more than usual now...if you can believe that is posssible.
