How about some tips on how to survive using BB1-3's in a Great Battle where the bigger battleships blow you out of the water before you can get into range and your ship is too slow to dodge enemy fire, apart from 'Stay at the back out of the fighting and try to earn some points by shooting down enemy planes, using your scout plane to drop mines in front of enemy ships, sinking submarines that penetrate your battle line or sinking small ships which charge suicidally at your fleet'.

You've already mentioned things to do. What more do you want?
Get over the fact you cannot do much more with a bb1-3.  Damn it doesn't take long to level through these tiers anyways. I've been using BB1+2 and having fun shooting down planes and hitting subs. This is great practice too.

-Stay mid
-wait for them to be blind
-aa enemy planes
-pick off rushing cl/dd/ff
-hunt ss
-When larger bb's are engaged with one another is a good opportunity to rush in and get some hits in and then retreat.
-Don't feel like you have to sink everything. Just do the little things to give you points and creds. A couple hits on a bb5 will do you wonders.
