  • Black Bars on side of screen

Hi everyone, I have a stupid question, i play NF on my laptop, and everything go fine. I have the two black bars on sides of the screen like anybody else  I think.
But, and thats the point, my brother, who also play NF on his laptop managed someway (we both dont know how) to make those two bars diseapear.
And there is my need of technical support, all the circles and fonts (who are a bit squeezed on my PC) go to look much better and more accurate.
Is there a way to do it on purpose? Even the ships and the angular speed of the guns seem more real.
Thanks for the attention you paid in reading this.

you should have the Nvidia control panel on your laptop. Find it (could just try searching in the windows 7 search) and open it.

Go to advanced settings.

Look for "scaling" in it

That image may help you - i'm not sure as the control panel has probably changed :s

Some of the fonts look squeezed on my 4:3 ratio monitor, where things are in a "proper" aspect ratio.

It's hard to say without specifics RE resolutions and aspect ratios, but it could just be that his laptop graphics driver is set to stretch the display instead of maintaining the correct aspect ratio when switching to a 4:3 resolution.

I think he is saying, that their laptops have wide-screens (1366 x 768). And instead of NF running at 1024 x 768 resolution with unused black areas on left and right sides of display, like before. They might have NF running in wide-screen mode now.

Well for me, my laptop still does not auto scale the video of NF to run in wide-screen display mode.

Maybe check to see if your laptop has some kind of display zoom function or a 3rd party program running that is able to change NF display resolution. That is my first thoughts, but could be far from the truth!

it is called scaling. You can either set NF to maintain it's intended aspect ratio (4:3) or you can have your graphics driver stretch it to fit your screen's aspect ratio (widescreen is typically 16:9 or 16:10 IIRC).

You can change it, but it depends on what graphics card you have and then what version of graphics software you have.
E.g.for an 8800 GT Nvidia card this is what my software was like.

You can find out how to change scaling by googling "scaling + [whatever graphics card/software you have]".

i use ATI now so should be able to help you. I don't check this often (was looking for something else when I saw this thread was alive again) so probs give me a yell on JF.com, NF.com or Toiletflushers.net

what I do with ATI (I use advanced view).

On the left hand click-down menu I click "Desktops & Displays". Then I right click my screen and click "configure..."
You then have a new screen and attributes should be the default first screen.

On it is GPU scaling.

Maintain aspect ratio = black bars on the side.
Scale image to full panel size = stretch to fill your screen.

third option you don't need to worry about.

Give me a yell if that doesn't work.
