I recently "scored" on a USN S-Type submarine. I went several battles in a row without hitting jack, and I kept getting destroyed pretty easily by either HH or other subs. Any tips on how to be a better SS player? Right now, playing SS isn't a game, it's a  burden.

My friend,

First of all, SS1-SS2 are mainly defensive-supportive submarines. If you can, try to wait for enemy subs to come, if you see them attacking your team mates, try helping them. Try improving your sonarman with more vets and try full experts and boost it, sonar range can be very important.

If you have team ss, go with him and support it. Sometimes, there will 2 or 3 submarines coming together, in that way you can get some attack. Try getting Premium Account, that will help you level up faster. At the start of the battle, try looking where the enemy ASW position is and enemy subs.

-Know your Range
-Watch your torpedoes
-work on your sonar and planesman.

If you can, dont rush at the start of the battle, let the game pass by 4-7 minutes, then try moving foward and see if you can get something, at ss3 you can start going foward by yourself and make some damage.

Or, if you need attack desperatly, go find rooms with over 50 players, alot of them will be DD-FF-CL and alot of subs, but like i said watch your torps and range, start practicing your accuracy with BB missions

if you need help , just PM, and i will answer your questions.

Everything Humberto said.

One other thing you will want to do is to B/V/E your planes man until he is 100% full. That way you will start out with full air.

The biggest thing is learning to recognize HH in the air so u can crit dive b4 it hits the water. Secondly, start using hotkeys

Playing Defense in a SS1,,,,a few hints as most players don't know how to play defense in a SS.

1. Stick with a group of BB's acting as their underwater eyes as a sonar man. Accompaning DD/CL/?? will have
HH and will sink enemy SS before you know it. You may get a torp off at an enemy SS however an SS1 vs any higher lvl SS is a suicide game. You can/should dive and go a short distance infront of the battle line to serve as a picket for on coming enemy SS. You may get a torp off, but your best tactic is to run and let the ASW ships deal with it.

Always make sure you can make it back to the battle line without running out of air. This is one of the most valuable defense tactics for an SS1.

2. If your team is loosing and starting to retreat, you have to dive and make a last stand. You can't run away with the BB's as you are too slow. Thus, dive and wait for the charging enemy. You may get a few torps off and do some damage before heading to the bottom. Again, you will be the eyes for your retreating team mates. You will supply visual targets for your retreating team mates. Avoid FF,DD as they will "see" you and you will die.

3. If you manage to get a torp off at a BB without them seeing you, Congratulations...but crash dive right after you fire. The world will fall in on you as the torps trails signal your location. HH's will fall like hail. You may not survive the only shots you get off but you may be lucky and they'll think they got you. You might get a second shot....IF you have a high lvl torpedo man that can reload fast enough.

4. As a Defense SS1, look at the "plot' grid and see if you can see where enemy SS are located at the beginning of the game and where they might be going. Your choices are (A) go to this area and help your team or (B) avoid this area, go elsewhere where survival chances might be better and help your team. You have to make a judgement call.
If the area where the enemy SS appear to be heading has lots of ASW, then you don't need to got there. If it looks like there is no ASW, you have to decide if you want to be the eyes of your team. Keep in mind that you are very slow and you can't run from one side of the map to the other. Consider your position when making a decision.

5. Play with skill and Hope for luck......Napoleon said that he'd rather have generals that are lucky rather then good. You can beat skill but you can't beat blind luck. Lady luck is fickle though, even if you treat her nice, she'll dump you for somebody else. HAVE FUN.

As an SS1-SS2, your starting position is of quite some significance. When the waiting room has split, look at your north and south forces. It serves you better to go with the weaker side or the side that will most likely fall, because then the enemy will come to you.

Patience........Grasshopper.....wait.....and the enemy will come to you..........for is not the ss1 like the humble mountain top waiting for the raging storm cloud ?
