  • Help with Fuso please

Heh, I've been posting a lot in IJN recently.

Anyway, here goes.

So I have my crew, lvl 82 BO + gunners VE, 4 Engies lvl 74 BVE, 4 reps VE lvls 75-80. I usually use my B65 (PBB xp rates and space for scout) but also my Nagato (no scout so I can train all supports... I know, don't kill me). I was thinking I want to spice up my grind a little. I figured I would re-buy a Fuso and mess around with it.

I remeber I hated it at-level (hence why I own a B65) but my crew was really bad back then. Now I feel I've had a bit of practice and a decent crew, I want to see what all the Fuss-o is about (see what I did there? =P)

I want to run it with 16" twins because I want a slice of that legendary firepower, this means I'll be hitting 39 knots OH (think that's what it does with this setup). I'll be using the same crew so slightly above level, 4/4 supports split.

I really want some more in-depth tips on how to use it. Please don't say "rush when the enemy is blind then run away" because I know this already but it's a pretty vague description. I'd like some more detailed advice from the veterans amongst you who use the Fuso, like how to know when the enemy is blind, where in the battle line I should be (in front, behind, alone, in a group?), which ships to rush and which to avoid etc.

I feel this ship is a bit out of my comfort zone in terms of the playstyle I like but I want to learn how to rush and I want to learn how to be good in a Fuso.

Sorry for the long post, if you put up with reading it then I'm all ears to your advice.

I'm no veteran but I love using the Fuso. I get consistent, acceptable results doing what I do. Please don't make fun of me, veterans.

I usually stay just behind the other bigger battleships. I don't worry too much about being targeted. Given the choice, the enemy will go for the bigger battleship over me. Stay just out of range of the enemy battleships or as far out as the other battleships on your team are. You just generally have to be aware of your surroundings, I guess.

So, because your range is low, you'll be sitting there for a while. I don't think it's too hard to figure out when they're blind. Look to see if there are any planes over you or if there's AAW stuff shooting out. If you also see that the enemy ships are (slowly) retreating they probably can't see you and are cautiously waiting for something to happen. As you play more you will be able to better recognize opportunities like when the enemy is distracted or when other battleships on your team are rushing and it would be in your benefit to join them.

That's the hardest part: picking a target and deciding to rush. Ideally, you will get in range, land a salvo or two, and get out of range. You can really "take" any ship, you just need to get in range; so don't be afraid of challenging a blind BB5 or something. The Fuso is very slim and BB players are very cocky. Most will just keep their course and lower their angle a little to meet your rush.

Even if I didn't help at all and this reads like nonsense...well, I like thinking to myself about playing my favourite ships. :)

Wait for them to be blind, and rush is pretty much what create opportunity to get attack.

For the rest, its a matter of timing, skill, and a bit of luck every now and then (calculated risk if you want).

Rushing from the battleline rarely work. Your saving grace will be around middle most of the time. A ship doesnt absolutely needs to be blind, but ideally it should be either distracted or alone. Isolating a BB4 and rushing him isn't that hard. The range advantage they have on you is important as far as linefighting goes, but you can cover that range in about 2 seconds rushing.

For the rest its in the timing. Many people will suggest various approach. Some wiggle in range dodging along the way, other just keep the pressure on till the other makes a mistake, or one that is popular is to slowly cruse into the BB4-5's range, and make an hard turn toward him when he shoots.

Key points remains not to try and be rambo, and to keep aware of what is affecting the ship attention at a certain point. If its you, then you are less likely to succeed your approach than if he is also keeping a BB5 at bay.

That BB5 is also likely to use you as a distraction, and when you start taking shots, nuke your target in one well aimed salvo. Every situation as its pro and cons as far as risk and reward goes.

Its up to you to find the balance you like.

When I was playing Fuso, I played it mostly with the 14"s. When I got the 16"s, I didn't like it as much as the Nagato due to the shorter range and lower speed.

As far as Fuso playstyle with 16"s go, I think you and the above posters have already described the ideas to play the Fuso effectively, the rest comes from experience and knowing your angles very well when you rush.

i suggest avoiding big groups of friendly ships cause will bring attention to you try to stay alone then rush in a cause some trouble you usally get couple shots off befor they shoot back if they dont have you scouted but works for me when i use my BB1-3

thank you very much for your tips. I'll try and put some of them into practice, I think the main thing I need to learn is patience.

I do like the sound of "cruise into range then hard turn when they fire", that's the kind of advice I was looking for =)

I did actually buy and equip the ship, I do 40 knots OH and I had a couple of really fun games (killed a Soyuz which I was quite proud of but died almost at the same time from being in range of 3 BB5s).

The main problem I have is for example 2 BB5s are line fighting and I rush to support mine, then he retreats leaving me exposed!

I think 42 is the speed cap for fuso.

that's pretty much true except I'm told you can hit 44 with the 14"Ls with if you skimp a bit on crew or if they are low level.

Also, mine does 40 with the 16"Ds but that's a minor difference. Also I'm using first set which are a bit heavier. Is your 39 measured with lvl 100 crew or something?

Yes. All of my sailors are 120. Gunners and BO have recruits off.
