This is what I do for best performance:
1. Make sure you turn off ALL background tasks (Except maybe windows and TS/Vent!)
2. Restart your PC every few battles, and let it rest for a minute or two.
3. Try out "Gamebooster", it is an application that when activated,
puts all tasks not relevant for gaming and the use of voice chat, on hold, therefore eating NO memory.
(There's even an option to turn off windows while the game is running! REALLY good for Win7/Vista users)
And lastly, my NF settings:
Anti-Aliasing (AA): On
AAW Effects: Off
Aircraft Smoke: On
Smoke From Battle damage: Off
Damage Fragments: On (Makes my bombing of BB6s look epic! :D)
Muzzle Flash : On
Smoke: Off
I leave my BG music off if i am in a VOIP app Like Vent/TS3, otherwise, its on.

With these things done, I get an average of 25-30 FPS on NF (And Crysis :D)
