  • Fastest way to Hiryu?

I have a new BO and some pilots (4 ft, 4 db, +11 ve lvl 60-ish). I'm playing them in Blitz at the moment and I'm going down Hiryu line, but I will be out of Blitz soon.

I don't want to buy a Ryujo because I think it will be a liability in GBs, I would rather take my Mog that way I can try to be useful without taking up a CV slot. I don't want to AA, partly because I want to train myself in CV use.

So, which of the following do I do?

1) equip all T2 fighters and help scout

2) equip all locals and act as a kind of AA shield

3) equip all DBs and try to get as much attack as I can?

4) mix plane types (probably not as I have so little space anyway)?

thanks in advance

Play GB2 in a CV2 since Ryujo has decent aircraft space and credit/exp gain.
And don't think about yourself as a liability because you will emo out before you get your fighters decently leveled.

As for exp gain...

Either High attack or high personal.
At your level trying to get high attack is the best bet.

practice all of these and you will be fine.

Mogami is fun, but Ryujo does have more space.

normally I woud advice against low level CVs "taking up a CV spot" in great battes, but
your humble enough to ask for opinions. that says a lot about your character. so I will take the time to answer you as best/breafly as I can. well that and the fact that I luv IJN and currently have all but these 4 IJN ships.
ss4, ss5, cv6, and ebb1 (the later I plan to remedy before event ends;)

My advice is to try all of the above. You have a good game plan and all are good tactics to learn and apply.
Mogami is a great confidence builder and great to practice with your (Manual) FCS but in Ryujo you want (Auto) or (Finder) FCS (Auto) FCS works good for bombing while (Finder) FCS helps give better scouting range for fighters. and greater tracking range for your (db/tb) bombers
These tactics work fine, just not all the time. CV players learn from each other, so if they see you trying to border hump dbs while they re on your team. next time you may meet on oposite teams. and he/she will counter that idea. so it wont work... Battleships do best when they can see other Battleships. but good players know how to shoot in the dark. so dont feel bad, its always the Carriers fault for losing games, just ask any BB player. jk lol ^_^'

-note: you make more experience/credits when your team wins. so sometimes you have to sacrifice your bombers to give your Battleships sight long enough for him/her to get the right angles.

Its also a good idea to learn manual bombing, as well as lowering your planes, and moving em around offten.
if your going up against high level CVs dont engage their fighters, consentrate on scouts and bombers.
when you have good (BB) players its best to scout for em, or keep enemy blind as long as possible. (specially when your BBs are engaging a BB6)

before the battle splits up the teams. scout other CVs in room. find out which CVs only have fighters equiped, and which have bombers equiped. that should dictate your game plan. For instance if you come across a CV that you know is only carring bombers, camp your fighters over that CV and he wont launch any planes without you getting to em 1st. also when your carrying only bombers, pair up with higher level CVs. prefferably the ones that carry only fighters. than send bombers after he/she launches fighters.

just remember. Fighters make Credits
Bombers make experience

What?

thanks for the detailed reply angrim, although I am also confused about what you meant by Manual and Auto FCS. surely the FCS you have on the ship doesn't affect what your planes do?

regarding game plan, I will try to bear what you said in mind and try some of those tactics, but it's too late when I'm in a room to change what planes I have based on what other CVs are carrying. Is it worth going F and B on a CV2? I would have though it more efficient to use all the space for one type.

I did play a few games and got between 20k and 50k attack in my Mogami with only 14 DBs on board, I chose IJN CV because of the great bombers and I like this so far. I think later today I will fill it with T2 fighters and see how that goes. Need to make money for that Ryujo to try it out... =P

FCS has NO effect on aircraft.
However i would suggest avoiding Auto since it gives a 20% exp penalty.

If you use guns on your CV take Aiming. If not just roll with Finder.

As for using lower level CVs in GB... why do you even care?
It's not like everyone was waiting till their ship is at least Tier 3 before actually playing anything above a CA in GB.
If you have enough pilots to man a CV2 then use it.

because I want to win. since there are 10 BBs but only 3 or 4 CVs per team, a noob CV is a huge weak link, whereas a BB1 or BB2 usually will not be such a weak link if there are 9 other BB4/5s in a team.

As i said. If you have pilots for a CV2 then use it. Chances are that the enemy team will have a CV2 as well.
Also people tend to be far more forgiving for people using CV2's,

So by not using a CV2 you just take the long way around due to your "think about the others" mentality while "others" won't give a damn in return.

maybe you're right. ATM I am just flicking between plane types, seeing how locals play, how T2 fighters play etc. and I can't afford the Ryujo anyway but I am close, just grinding money ATM. I will give it a try when I can afford it, the higher money and xp rates are appealing anyway
