  • Can I level neutral sailors on my nation's ship?

I'm running around at level 70, RN. I realized I need a few more engineers. I was wondering if I can just start levelling up at level 1 sailor on my ship as is,  or if I'd need to level them to 12 or whatever the nation level limit is, with a neutral ship until then.

I had the same problem as U as I needed 2 more engineers so I started with lvl 1 on FF1 til lvl 12. Nationed them, then boosted them. They had to work on lower level ships. I put them on an FFY and went both blitzing and GB. Went Subhunting in GB. If you have crew space in dock/HQ you can make some Junk Neutrals that you can take up to high lvls with the Engs. Later you can trash the Neutrals. (Although sub hunting is fun as heck). I also had a DDX for sub hunting and used the Engs to help speed up the ship and to help SDE.

You will lvl the eng up faster on a ship that is near or above their lvl. If you are 10 lvls below the ship level you will only get 88% exp points. At 20 lvls below, you get 50% exp. The further below, the worse it gets. However you can be 24 lvls above and still get 90% experience points At 50 lvls above, you get 50% exp. At more then 27 lvls below ship lvl, you will get 1% exp.

So, it's much better to be above lvl then below lvl.

My rookie pilots as scouts on my BB got 35 points of experience in battles because they were so far below lvl. I don't care as they are permanent scouts.

The problem is solvable, but putting low lvl sailors on high lvl ships is not the way to do it.

Putting low level sailors on a high level ship is absolutely the right way to do it.

@OP: Convenient you play RN because I too use an Emerald to AA in GB to train sailor of all nations. (others prefer the emden but emerald can fit 1 more sailor)

Even though it is ~25 higher than a freshly rolled sailor, the XP from AA is so high that even a percentage of it will be more than the XP cap of sailors level 1-20.

With the Emerald, BO, 2 main gunners, you can train 6 new sailors (such as my entire ijn ss crew or sailors for sale) from levels 1-15 in 15 games (15 blitz games win or lose, about 2 hours). Then move to GB and play for 15 more wins to get them to level 30 (about a day).

From there I continue the Emerald to around 40, then pop them on a PCA and AA until 60. Then PBB from 60 to 80. I have seen people train sailors on an L2 from 90-120 with only a BO and front gunner.

A good point. I never considered the effect of AA on experience points. I was only considering gunships and not AA ships. I stand corrected.

Totally agree!

If u have 2 choices to train lvl 35 guys, for example:
1) a 30 lvl ship with 7 slots for train (others are high lvl guys like BO or AA Gunners to make work proper the ship)
and
2) a 48 lvl RN PCA with 10 slots for train (idem)
If we suppose to gain 1000 xp in a battle then
1) 7 guys @ 35 (with no penalization for level difference) gain
7 x 1000 xp = 7000 xp
2) 10 guys @35 (with 78% for 13 level diference) gain
10 x 780 xp = 7800 xp

So you MUST train with the ship with more slots like case (2) making the calculus like example before using table cited before me for another player.
Specially pay attention to Royal Navy ships: they tend to have an extra slot compared to other nation equivalent ships

And dont waste time using ships w/ Torpz!! the penalize to xp is so high that a single Gb as AAW ship is equivalent to 2 or 3 in TW ships!!!
