From what i know you could have classed them at lvl 62 and they would do fine but waiting more levels will make them lighter due to smaller sailor growth on Armory sailors compared to their Classed on time counterparts.

Class them, they'll be fine.

If you're not planning to RLD cap the A variant of the trip 6", classing them now should be fine at your lvl.


On a related note, if you really want super competitive IJN DP gunners, lvl a pair of elite reps and leave them as national sailors until lvl 120. Even with national xp, the grind can be quite unforgiving if you're just playing casually but it pays off massively if you have the excessive time and patience especially if you're seriously aiming for the ultimate IJN BB/CV crew. They will still RLD cap all IJN AA except for the trip 6" but personally, its gunset is just not widely usable on most ships to make it supremely effective.

What exactly is the advantage of levelling repairmen as AA for IJN?  I understand that this is advised for AA (should you choose to use it) and torpmen in the SN, owing to SN's repair-growth advantage.  Doesn't repair growth for IJN generally kind of suck though?  Also, won't levelling repairmen to be AA gunners severely impair your reload-growth?
