  • Lag Response 2/28/12

TeamNF_MK2

Hey guys,

I decided to make a new thread to continue from where we left off. As you are all likely aware, our team has undertaken a number of measures  to try and  fully resolve the lag reports that we have been receiving from a number of players for the past few weeks. This culminated in last night's upgrade of our server hardware.

I am saddened to report that we are still seeing reports of inconsistent server conditions from a number of users even after this change.

That means that we must begin to consider more drastic measures as this is a very serious issue that we want to resolve permanently. I must stress again that our team is just as frustrated over this as you are and will not give up until we see conditions improve drastically.

With that goal in mind, I have been notified that another attempt at fixing this problem will be made during the upcoming maintenance period. Tomorrow is a holiday in Korea, so the work is scheduled to be performed this Thursday from 10PM -1AM PST. This work should result in noticeable improvements. However, please keep in mind that there are realistic limitations and that players furthest from the servers (in San Jose, CA) may still experience conditions less favorable compared to players in the US.

If this measure does not result in the improvements we hope to see, then we will be left with no choice but to consider changing our service provider.

Again, we are deeply sorry for the length of time taken to fully diagnose these difficult lag issues. Our team is thankful for your support and understanding through this difficult time.

I will keep you updated on the latest happenings.

-Randy

Thanks for the update. We will try to keep you posted on the lag issue. But with so little players on Keiser Server nowadays. It would be difficult to definately say that things have been solved (on a lightly loaded server) even if we encounter smoother play.

Yeah for himself.

Everyone is different....we dont all "hop" thru the same servers to connect to NF.

true foxdie, but several of us are finding the same router is the one dropping packets, even if we are from different countries. We have been telling them for months it is an issue regarding the IPs and they have flat out ignored us, "sde know best" and decide Hardware change... way to go spending money and getting no result.

Good to know this is still priority #1.

I second the motion to change providers. Wouldn't hurt to start looking for alternatives in the event the upcoming tweaks don't solve the problem (IMHO they won't, but I'm a pessimist).

I've sent in one pathping/tracert file, and I'm gonna try and send in a few more, recorded at different times in the day to see if that helps illustrate the problem better. I know I see more lag at some times than other times, but I don't know the pattern for that stuff yet.

This is the last time i will say it,

Every change you do on the server end, will not change the conditions of CDnetworks.

The issue continues to be at the panther edge router....

202.84.251.62 No backed loss at peer connection form Reach networks to cdnetworks.

4.52.208.10 this a the Panther Networks edge router (AKA CDNetworks) then gets bounced several times at the private router 34% packet loss

174.35.18.82 to 172.35.13.246.....10% packet loss on both

Then 208.80.251.170 another 10% packet loss

211.43.149.200 another 33% packet loss at the server

Now this packet loss can be caused by....

Network congestion.
Network fragmentation.
Incomplete routing or bad routes or bad BGP advertisements.
Bad IP address, Subnet mask, incorect ip binding.
Bad Network Interface adapter on server.
Bad Switch Port or configuration of Switch Port most likely a port type mismatch. (common Cisco issue)
Flapping Switch Port.
Nic port traffic overload.Hosting on Virtual Server with overcomitted ram/Nic/Processor/Disk/Uplinks or Bad Bonded nic cards.

But and here is the kicker....Lets go back to the use of a Korean IP address in US nic...yes this is a Korean Portable IP Address ...but its only portable in KOREA....OMG...

Sigh....its now 13months since this was raised as a fully documented issue with SDE.and the saga continues.

Hello -Randy

It would be interesting to know where it all began. why until three weeks ago did not have anything "LAG".

Let's wait for the new offers.

Randy, thank you for your work.
