  • Ship Progression and Purpose

I've had quite a bit of fun with NavyField so far... up until I just got my first Battleship.

What is the purpose of the lower level BB's? Is there any aside from being giant targets? While I was still able to play Blitzkrieg I was enjoying myself and actually being effective in combat... then level 60 came.

Now I can't play Blitzkrieg games and I end up in Great Battle instead. Alright - sounds cool. Well, it is up until I realized that my boat has little place in this "Great Battle"

I'm using the BB Revenge currently as I'm playing UK and going down the line - I'm almost to the Queen Victoria. I'm using dual 15's and trying my hand at high angle shots and I'm finding that the presence of higher level battleships entirely invalidate my presence in the battle. The range of their guns is simply far greater than mine - to the point that I can't get my BB close enough to fire my own without being obliterated.

So I ask - what is my place in GB as a UK BB? This question probably fits for other people of other Nations too - but what do you do in that awkward early BB stage?

The game isn't fun if I just join a game to get blown to smithereens by somebody shooting twice my firing range for half of my life per salvo.

I know this reads like a giant QQ post - but really - am I just supposed to grind and enjoy when I can get any damage at all? I feel like I'm floating around in a massive slow Frigate currently.

Attack rushing cruisers. Practice your aim. Just get >0 attack and you'll get loads of EXP. It's boring, yes, but that's what a grind is. You'll be in your next ship in less than a hundred games. If you really can't stand it, AA. You need to only shoot down a few planes to get decent EXP and you get experts and credits too.

This is the answer I expected but I guess I didn't really want to hear. I hate when the answer is just "suck it up and grind"

It just sucks. It's like I got kicked out of the kiddie pool and tossed into the shark tank.

Thanks anywho - I'll just rush Cruisers and hope for the best.

How do I get the most XP out of a game? Should I wait till it ends even if I die?

level 60, you can still play blit...

since your a bb1, don't rush, gb isn't like blitz where everybody rush rush rush... just be patient and wait for an incoming enemy or an enemy that is being occupied by your team m8... or join a line fight with other bb of your team

I'm over 60. No Blitz for me anymore.

I've tried sitting back and just defending Carriers etc and taking shots at people who push through and that works to get XP but it isn't really rewarding. My ship currently can't really line fight because they all happen beyond my range.

Long story short at any stage and no matter what I do I'm having the same issue - there's always another player with a bigger battleship with longer range with some sort of godlike accuracy that will kill/cripple me in a single shot. If there isn't - then my team is usually winning and I'll be too slow or dead and won't be involved in the fight.

Sorry for the QQ, just kinda bummed. So far I think the AA idea is the best. I honestly have more Planes within my reach than I ever do another Ship.

with UK BB you will be out ranged by everything pretty much to bb4 and even then you are still slightly lacking.

everynations low teir BB's are outranged but thats why they are bb1's2's etc. the only real way to get through this is, well, suck it up and grind. everyone has had to do it, its part of the game. try the PBB?

in GB's in a low level bb if you rush you die with very little attack (unless your lucky) and you get only semi decent exp, if you wait out the battle, pick of other rushing bb or smaller ships and then when the time is right and the other team is week you rush and get as much attack as you can. load AA or HH to give you something else to do.

there is no other real answer but just grind it out.

My recommendation is learn how to be a ninja. Sit in the middle and wait for the larger BBs to start shooting at each other. When an oppertunity presents itself, rush in, land some good salvos, and back out. It's a different type of playstyle from the larger tier BBs, but arguably more enjoyable.

"Almost to QueenVic"-- 60 may be half of 120 level wise, but EXP wise, the "halfway" point is around level 110..

Not much other advice to give then whats already been given, but as you get a higher tier BB (my first BB line was UK Revenge as well) you will get more range. You must be patient in order to engage higher level BBs, and take advantage of when the enemy BBs are blind (There are tell-tale signs)

As I gathered from your implication, you don't exactly have the best accuracy/spread with your gunners. This is another good reason you should play AA: at lower levels, converting vets is easier.
I know it sounds like it sucks but really, you'll appreciate it at higher levels. Having good range is worthless if your shells land all over the place.
So just AA for some time (this is used loosely here, I AAed most of the time from level 60 to 85 or so), you'll get good XP, experts and vets and additionally, a good amount of credits.

I think this where a med range game mode needs to be interduced say lvl 60-90 I agree with his frustrations, and its a huge reason why newbies dont stay long, and long grind is ok as long as its fun

being food I dont think is very fun for anyone but the one with the fork in his hand

Your playing UK Revenge line some of the best at level BB's out there. Once you get the dual 15' Ns (lv68) you will outrange most bb2 and be on par with some bb3. You will have to get used to running in popping a salvo or 2 onto a cl+ then running back IF you didnt die and repping.

You will be slow with @ level engys just a warning. Once you get the QE though its much easier, KGV/POW require quite a bit of practice. (less range than QE but more versatile)
