  • AAW stat; "partly reactivated" ?

Someone in-game mentioned that AAW stat had been "partly reactivated"
... is there any truth to this?  I'll I know is that, in long-past accounts, I classed
IJN AA gunners as each new class presented itself .. and can remember a markedly
greater tendency for my ships' machine-guns to actually hit and down low-flying planes.

Right now, I'm following the delay-class method (hopefully not classing beyond armament sailors until level 120) with a pair of elite reload gunners.  My current Mogami, however, seems to have no success in dowing planes with its machine-guns, even when I steam right under planes that are circling at lowest-possible altitude.

Any thoughts?

The ship AAW stat is activated.

The sailor stat isn't.

One of the mods got the wrong idea from what a GM said, and went around claiming the sailor stat was active without any testing and caused this rumour.

Ah, many thanks;  So delay-classing my elite reloads it still the best approach :) ..was worried for a moment there.  The difference in downing low-flying planes might simply have been that other, earlier ships had better ship-based AAW (especially, perhaps, versus lower-level/blitz-flying aircraft) ?

A number of things affect AAW immunity. In fact, AAW fire is actually the same kind of fire as you get from fighters.

You have a number of main items; Attack (which is either the ship based AAW stat, or the plane attack stat), or you have defense (which is the plane's AP defense stat).

Also, for planes, the ability of its relevant stat (fighter for fighters, air for scouts and bomber for bomber) works in tandem with the plane stat to improve the defense/offense of the planes.

Also, displayed ability is multiplied in a formula with the crew details to produce true ability, which is what it is all about. There are a bunch of guides in  the Tips and Tactics forum, on www.nf-guides.com and on www.opennavyfield.com which are some good reading if you are serious on getting the best crew.
