  • A Few Status Updates

Looks like Summer is almost here and with that, we should touch base on the status of our ongoing projects. I have a few notices for the future as well as our official response to a few random concerns. Without further ado;

Q1. Can you explain the process for updating the test server and why it takes time?
A. The process of the test server is as follows:

1. Discuss what we should test
2. The game design team begins to roughly input the numbers/changes
3. The game program team begins work on the patch files
4. The server programmer patches the test server
5. GMs test that all the functions are working
6. Testers test the details
7. Discussion takes place and a request for the patch is issued
8. Start with number 1 again


Q2. Update on the new Harbor Assault game mode for all players
A. If all of the necessary work continues to be completed on schedule, we should expect to see the new harbors in June. It won't be patched later than July.


Q3. Update on the patch for windows 7
A. Currently undergoing testing by GMs. We have run into a lot of graphic and interface bugs, so programmers are working to fix the major problems. After the programmers have resolved all the reported problems, changes will be patched to the test server first to allow all players a chance to test. This has taken a bit of time because the programmers have almost built the client engine from scratch.


Q4. Update on random crash complaints
A. We truly expect to fix most if not all random errors once we finish the Win7 patch. Also, we are checking our server condition very often, so crash instances should be reduced. As before, we strongly recemmend that players free up available system memory prior to running NF as low memory may often have an impact on performance.

Q5. Update on wider range of game modes other than GB
A. Currently there are a few new game modes under careful consideration. Once more comes of this we will provide a tangible time frame and update.


Q6. Select mode rooms to have same % exp as GB
A. Currently being worked on. May be patched in the near future.

Q7.Has a decision been made regarding the HA Smoke Poll?
A. The poll result was pretty even with numerous talks of possible alternate solutions. As such, we will postpone this issue for the future in order to allow more discussion on a better compromise or solution.


Q8. Would we ever consider to have a language filter that can be set on or off?
A. We do not plan to make such an option available.

Q9. Premium Trade System progress update
A. Several concepts for new versions of the past Premium Trade System have been undergoing consideration. Unfortunately, because of the amount of issues the previous system faced, the new concept will need to be thoroughly tested. GMs will be testing the proposals for potential exploits and improved efficiency among other things. The testing may push the release back from the original before Summer schedule, but it will be for the best as it will make the system better for everyone. Once a more concrete ETA is available I will have it posted.

Random notes:



There will be a Summer event launching soon on both servers. Please look for a new NF newsletter being sent out soon or check the site for details possibly later this week.

An official fleet war is also in the works following the event. Please also expect a number of technical changes which we will announce when ready.

Well it is nice to see a update on a few things and some questions answered. 

Although for the test server updates i must say if it works in that order then #3-5 must be VERY slow atm since richard had made this post

Yet MM or the GM's didn't seem to notice or post anything saying that it would be delayed or worked on so as it is mid as well wait for LJ to finalise and send in the proposal he is working on found

I must say though for certain issues i hope we can somehow speed up the process a little to fix some of the issues italy being the biggest atm.

 

I'm a bit worried about the new harbors since as it is the old ones have issues and im skeptical that the new ones will be any better or they may just not work at all.  I certainly hope some of the things that players suggested will be utilized in your "new" HA mode when it's done.

 

Otherwise the rest of the update is good although #8 makes zero sense to me, a game that specifically says 18+ or parental permission should dictate that a swearing filter is unneeded.  Other than that pretty much the same ol, although i personally think the swear filter is completely pointless but w/e. 

 

I just hope that certain changes will not break anything else, it's bogged as it is on the test server with slow patching -.-, anyway thanks for the update.

Thank you for the update Randy. As always, passing on what you know is appreciated. 
Only a couple thoughts:

2: This is then an update regarding the final harbours to be implimented I presume. Fantastic. It's good to have a good timeframe for this. It will be great to have for summer when server populations are at a high. Very excited for more harbours, just desperately hoping they're all in smooth working order *fingers crossed*. 

4: Hopeful that this is worked on with great dedication. It's one of the last serious problems with this games hardware (along with HA problems).

5: Would be great to have this done in time for summer but sounds unlikely. Well, maybe an event for when further game modes are implimented on the servers? *nudge nudge*

7: Personally I think the poll should have included CLs and/or maybe CAs, as just running a DD in an HA isn't so glorious. Either way, good to see community discussions being at the forefront of development (even if not as frequent as we'd like to complain about, heh).

8: This is the one I'm slightly disappointed about. Unless there is an obvious concern about abusing this potential addition, I don't see why we don't have the option to see someone say the word   *cough*   or   *clears throat*   or what-have-you. When you log in, every time you have to agree that you are either a natural adult, or that you have the approval/supervision of an adult. Under both those circumstances I see no reason why we, the people, can't choose to read or not to read swearing. Honestly I believe it would stop people from bypassing filters if they at least saw the word in front of their own eyes. People who want to swear at people (as in harass, etc) are going to bypass the filter either way. Everyone else just seems to curse out of frusteration (that  *cough-hack*-ing    sub, etc). You'd know who can or can't fairly complain to the mods saying "teacherrrrr, bobby was swearrrrringggg" if they've got their filter disabled, or if they're just trying to get someone in trouble. But moving on. I'd hope SDE understands this in a way I do not, or has a concern that is not immediately understood by myself.

9: Sounds good, though I'm concerned about the "several concepts for new stuff are undergoing consideration". I was hoping for something a little more pressing. But hey, for me it's just a mild convenience. I can still pay for things with the credits I've earned either way. For SDE it's a function that gets them more money. Just saying. 

Finally, stoked for the Summer event! And for O.F.W. ^_^. Hoping there's some awesome bragging-rights style prizes with that (rentals after every X wins, perhaps?). At least something, down the road.

    As always, thank you Randy for the thorough update. The majority of us truly appreciate it. Others appreciate the chance to complain that they're not exactly what they wanted, not more frequent, etc. :P

Im confused about #2. It says "game mode for ALL players" and then the reply mentions harbours? Does it mean that the new game mode for all players will be based on existing harbours?

*ahem*... Anyways.

Tappo I think it means about the upcoming HA updates/nations' harbours, as these have been one of the largest concerns being proposed (and as far as a gametype/mission-style HA thing, I haven't heard anything about something like that if that's what you mean). Previous updates have mentioned proposed dates for finishing up the last harbours (that they're finishing up the rental ships, mapping, etc). Either way I had to presume the wording of that section meant something else one way or the other.

Q6. Worked on! it involves changeing a figure as you do with select room only boosts.

Q7. Yes it was even so lets try something different for a bit to see if the doubtors are converted.  A change is as good as a break and I'm sure you don't want people taking breaks.

Q8. Why not? Although I guess subs will never be in NF either!

Q9. Yes please stop exploitors.

And another event, i miss the days of no event (sorry Nebby people).

You missed RM too. We were told ship sprites were being modified a month ago. And test team have provided an update to the RM nation so do somthing.

Oh and you hit your Monday evening deadline by 11 minutes nice going.

Hm. Well then. Hmmm... I had forgotten about this so long ago I didn't even consider it. 
Now I'm two kinds of confused.

Randy, think you could clarify that you meant the upcoming HA Game Mode, as well as give us an update on the state of the Harbours (if you have some information for us)?

i see nothing aboutfixing the shared xp system. CV xp for example..
