  • How to steer my ship?

As the title says, I'd like help steering my ship.

This is a noob question, especially from someone who's played for years, but I still don't know the "official" answer.

How do I steer my ship?

I know that right clicking steers the ship in most cases, that's not the problem. I want to know a reliable way to steer after having already selected my scout.

If I press the "1" key my scout is selected, and then when I right click I can send my scout to wherever I like. But my question is, how do I unselect my scout so that I can once again sterr my ship?

For all these years I have simply spammed left click, dragged a box and basically mashed the keyboard with my palm like a spastic, and eventually my scout deselects and I can steer my ship again. Obviously there is a proper way to do this that I'm not aware of.

I'd like to know how it's "supposed" to work. Could anyone please shed some light?

Thanks. I always kinda thought that was supposed to be it, but then again why would you want to look at the end of your guidelines when you're trying to turn back?

EDIT: I think I'm just suffering from bad habbits brought about by years of excessive lag. NF has a lot of keys that serve multiple purposes, and no real way to determine which purpose you're using at any given time unless you press everything multiple times (the mash method).

I will try just spamming G instead of trying to rely on spamming left click (left click has been my mainstay as in the past it has worked most times).

Right click and it should go away from controlling the scout and you can once again controll your ship steering.

Usually when I order my scout it is somewhere near my splashes, because that's the area I want them to light up. So pressing G actually should send the camera to the ship. ;)

Press 1, select scout, right click where you want to the scout to go,

Press G til at your ship

Left click the screen

Right click where you want your ship to go.

 

Now if you don't want to fail at scouting, you'll also use your ; and . keys to to change your scouts altitude so it doesn't get AA spammed as easily...

I personally left click/drag boxes with no planes in it to deselect the scout.

At 0:46-0:52, I select the scout with the 1 key, then deselect with left clicking (invisible)
