Strange, I do the Vanguard's opposite. Charge and slug it out. I still come out on top when the other driver sees a sub and runs. =)

Also, I can snag a Monty kill when he's firing blind. Though I pop smoke, those 16"s can hurt, 30 degrees with LHE and AP does do the trick. Oh, my supports are 5 engineers, 3 repairs 85-83 BVE'd. 1 scout at 65 and 115 Acc Gunners BVE'd.

I know you don't have great speed but a good tactic is to save your OH. Don't use it at the start like most BBs. Generally speaking the better players go south so I usually go north. Just float around shooting small ships that come in range while staying out of range of the big BBs, and then while your teammates (hopefully) start shooting at the big ones and distract them, use your OH get in a few shots and scarper back before they notice...

Not as easily done with a bigger slower ship but if the enemy is distracted you can usually get a shot or 2 before they notice.

I think it's a fair question if you're struggling in the Vanny since (if you have BOs at both Hood and Nelson) your support sailors should be adequate.

If you played Nelson line to Vanny with one BO and your second BO is Hood but you haven't played Hood much, I'd suggest levelling your Hood BO to L1 in the Hood If you level to BB4 via the Hood the Vanny will be much easier.The Hood is the only UK ship similar to the Vanny.

Vanny is an great BB4 if you've done the hard yards in the Hood. Playing the Hood you should have learned to fire your front and rear guns independently, thus maximising range. The Vanny is basically an OP Hood with a hit box half the size. Keep manouvring defensively while you're engaged and move into range of your enemy while they are blind/distracted. Rushing an enemy BB in the Vanny when they can see you is suicide; it's a totally opposite playing style to the Nelson.

Hope that helps. I was a bit hesitant about Hood/Vanny line at first because I was used to other UK BBs. But if you can master the Vanny it will benefit you when you get to L2 and you'll have a lot of fun.
