With a good crew, the guam is a great ship to play. However, I just love the nevada and the tennessee pre mod, but I've only played those with my nebby crew and none at lvl.

I used the Guam. I didn't hate it, personally. I stood the grind enough so that I went all the way to the Colorado, without bailing halfway at the New Mexico.

I used the Guam as a ninja and AA boat with an at-level crew. This was over a year ago, mind, when they didn't have the borders set to what they are now. I would AA with the 5" duals, and mingle with the bigger BB's as they would head further north. I used the 12" L, not the 14", because I like the sling factor on it.
Once the line reached the north border, I would stay up there at the border until I felt I had a chance, then I would use Guam's relative speed to race in until an unsuspecting BB was in my range, fire one salvo, and run before he could try and shoot me blind or scout me, shooting an extra-range slingshot on the way out. I had some success and made it to the Colorado relatively quickly. Plus, I wasn't a baby and I didn't sit in Blitzkrieg until 61, I went to GB at 59 the minute I remodded my Alaska. I just felt Guam was a GB boat more than a Blitz boat.

I have a Guam. My USN BB GUAM is actually impressive becuase of the abilities that you have listed. It's capacity as a dogding ship and AA ship is pretty impressive. This makes the Guam an awesome support ship while effectively drawing fire for the bigger ships of the fleet. Also, I speed whore the ship to give it a nifty 59 knot overspeed, which is just abuse in my opinion. 

Ok, if you want to compare different BB1s I guess there are couple of scenarios where the result may differ.

Scenario1: Blitz, at-level crew.
In this scenario, UK BB1s will stand out mainly because of the extra support slot which is UK nation trait. Plus, UK Renown has got nice AA, nice range, nice damage, nice armor. If you class your UK gunners late, then you will have absolutely workable gun accuracy and reload. The only challenging BB1, in my opinion, is KM Sharnhorst mainly because if its speed, its AA ability and its range advantage. One should also consider the threat that comes from CVs in Blitz, and in this context, Guam will stand out because of its tremendous AAW ability. UK Revenge has got amazing firepower but due to its low speed and relatively weak AAW, it's an easy target to CV.

Tier2: UK Revenge, RM BB1, SN BB1, MN BB1, IJN BB1, Other USN BB1


Scenario2: GB, at-level crew.
I have only leveled up my UK Renown with at-level crew in GB, so it's really hard for me to say which BB1 suits best for GB. But in my persnal observation, I think Guam and Sharnhorst should stand out in this scenario mainly because of their speed which enables them to get in and out of a fight easily (plus AA ability, too). Those tiny-wheeny BB1s from SN and RM are also good because of their ability to survive. UK BB1s, in this context, do not have much advantage. They are basically other higher-level BBs' food (although you can level up one more sailor with UK BBs...).

Tier1: USN Guam, KM Sharnhorst, SN BB1, RM BB1


Scenario3: BB1 vs BB1 fight, at-level crew
Now this is getting interesting. In BB vs BB fight, you can rule out the impact from CVs, so those BB1s which have scout-sniping ability (we are talking about tier1/2 scouts here), nice range and nice speed will win out. Therefore I think, in this scenario, the best BB1s are UK Renown and KM Sharnhorst. Technically UK Renown is not afraid of any other BB1. It has got nice speed (although slower than Guam), nice armor, good AA, good damage and nice range, and one more support slot. Its only shortcoming may be its DP being a little too low. If you think you can beat my Renown with Guam or Kongo, feel free to challenge me. MN has got nice AA and nice damage output, but I hear that their range is shorter than UK, so...out of question.

Scenario4: BB1 vs BB1 fight, level 120 crew
Now this is getting even more interesting. With level 120 crew on BB1s, we can pretty much ignore the AA, because tier5 scouts have a sight range wider than pretty much any AA (although I'm not sure whether IJN AA and MN AA on BB1 can shoot farther than tier5 scout's sight range). In this context, and before RM came around, I think UK Revenge should be the best BB1 because of this firepower (8 15-inch guns), its 1 more support slot than other nations, and its small hitbox.

However, after RM came around, I started to think RM BB1 is the best in this scenario because I have seen in GB that RM BB1 has guns that outrange my UK BB4...

Tier1: RM BB1 (maybe a bug?)
Tier2: UK Revenge

only thing I like about the Guam is the paint job...thats it

I remember I used both Alaska and then Guam I didn't like either of em..& att I was using elite gunners with 160 vets & full experts. Guam was a little better due to its 14's  but not by much. Then I tried the Nevada. Now that bb1 was very good I had the same gunners with same vets & experts. To me the difference was night & day. Wasnt the best in blitz but I won a lot more battles. Nevada was a little slower but could take more damage. Spread was pretty good along with range..well it did need a little more range..but good enough. Had pleanty of fun 1 shot kills.

Only thing i didnt like was that u level up very fast in bb1 in blitz so the fun was over quick.

Best USN BB1 Id say go with Nevada but make sure u have good gunners..they dont have to be elite but its ur choice. Just rememmber to have fun above all..after all its just a game. Good luck & give em hell!!

In pure ship abilities, Revenge/Renown would win ofc with 120 crew or even at-lvl.

But if you factor in skills, then it depends. In GBs, my Guam wrecked BB5s unlike some of the other BB1s because I got mine to miraculously go 49 knots and the DPM of the Trip 14s is ridiculous. If you know this game as well as I do you'd know that sometimes you get one shotted by 120 Montanas but its still pretty fun anyway.

Revenge would be too slow and Renown would have too slow of a reload. Scharn has way too long of a hang time combined with the weak salvo damage like the guam. I dont really know anything about the newer nations.

When it all comes down to it, a Guam with 120 crew is basically like the old Mandel that went 51 knots or more with the BB guns. God would know how easily that could wreck anything in the playing field if the player could play the ship right
