I've been playing Gneisenau for a few games (~10 to 20) using the lvl 63 11''L triplets. I have to say, these guns are absolute garbage! I mean, it has good range, but the spread is awful, and the damage is laughable. What were designers thinking when they develop these guns??? Ok, I get that to offset the ridiculous range by bb2 standards, they had to nerf other aspects to fit with KM nation characteristics, but must they do it to this extreme? I mean, I am using lvl 90 special sailors with 200 vets as gunners, and my spread still very bad. I cringed to think what my spread would be like with at-level gunners with only 100 vets. And the damage, it's pathetic. I once hit a DD with a shell for 500 damage. 500 damage with a BB shell? Granted DDs get better submergence against BB caliber guns, but anything less than 1000 should not be consider a BB weapon.  The combination of bad spread and low shell damage makes the ship really hard to drive in GB environment. Sure, you can get in range easily with the range and speed of ship, but you can't do much damage with these guns before you either get sunk by return fire, or force to retreat. And KM ships are not known for being able to take damage. I think my max damage with these guns is 30K, which in any other bb2 (i've played US and UK BBs) is mediocre at best. These guns would be much more competitive if it could trade a bit of that range for a tighter spread or higher shell damage.

Well, now that my rant is over, I'll maybe try to duel 15''s. Most people I see use those anyway (now I know why...)

In BB room, it doesn't shine either. If you want bb2 shining in those room, take KGV use QE guns and put 9" deck on it. You will bounce all of the BB2, even those that got 45 degree angle. It has fantastic range, and great damage for just 6 shells.

I thing yes, and at max range AP will penetrate 9'.

As if everyone can't use AP to begin with....

As if you're going to only focus on the only armoured whore ships when it is surround by 5-6 BB in small BB room, 7-8 in 30 vs 30 and 10+ in really bigé

Having play both, whichever is the easier is the KGV in BB room. which ever plays best at the end of the day is still KGV. Until they remove the QE gun issue with BB3 range, it is one of the greatest farming ship in BB room.

 

The only good thing the 11" has is trolling the crap out of the BB4 .

I loled...... 30k damage are you joking bro? I get only 15k damage full salvo as the best result, with all 9 shells landing.
When your enemy has over 4" deck armor you get <50 damage for 70% of the shells. Hits like a DD gun.

I meant 30K damage in a game, not a single salvo. Of course you can't get 30K in a single salvo with these guns. I once hit a bb6 with 3 salvos, maybe 60 - 70 % hit rate, did 28K. I can do more than that in 1 salvo with half of monty's guns.

Hi there,
I have made the KM grind in both Bissy and Opro2 lines and have use the 11" and the 14.96" guns too. I must say that despite the lack of punch of the 11"s, the speed and the range you got in a BC (Opro1 and Gneisenau are classed as BCs, not BBs) are awesome. I agree that both BCs are fragile, but I think playing carefully and taking advantage of the speed and range compensate the damage output and the durability of these ships. Proper driving of these ships implies a good judgement of the opportunities to OH, get in, get a couple of shots and then fall back. High level engineers and good gunners are of course a must to enjoy the long range and the speed of the above mentioned BCs.

Just as a side note: like maybe 4 or 5 years ago there was a discussion on a BB only room about the same issue: do the 11"s KM guns are of any use at all?

A very skilled BB player (his account is still in use, though I don't know if the original account owner still plays that account) wanted to prove that the 11"s are not useless. So he changed his old H44 guns for the 11"s and farmed 2/3 of the enemy BBs. BTW a big group of the enemy BBs were "old school", skilled BB drivers; he did't farm noobies in low-level ships w/ low-level crews...

 Anyway, I brought this story just to make the point that the driver of the ship makes a big difference, not only the ship set-up (though I won't argue that the set-up with the 11" is "competitive" for a H44, nor that it was before).

I thing that use 1 bind AP and rest HE is normal, And still you must use this setup in KGV, or in BB1-3 rooms may be 2, trere can be great numbers 15' HE with 30deg resisiting ships.

Ammo isn't the issue. You have plenty of ammo to deal 200-300k at least.

 

The problem is how it is going to be used at the end of the day, and how effectively. So far, in BB2 room, it doesn't really apply that well. Unless the IJN, and soviet class emerge and excell at armour penetration, which is not the case.

Right now, any IJN/SN BB2 guns are easily bounced even at 43/45, because of the mechanic.
