You know those days when you wish you could mess with the subs up just as much as they mess you? Well here's how:

I recomend getting a new crew for this, even though the stats wont matter, you mind as well be levelling a crew with decent stats for either later re-sale value or personal use later. You'll need at least a BO and 2 torpmen. A sonarman is also advisable. The other slots can be used to lvl neuts or whatever. One last thing: Remove all but 1 recruit from everyone.

You want an IJN Fubuki with the DD 1 Heavy engine, but a SS 1 FCS. You still get the sonar bonus for destroyers, so don't worry. Now place 2 Depth Charge Launchers in the far back. The third one is harder to run away from and adds that much more weight that I prefer not to use it. Load them with 20 Depth Charges each, again to keep the weight minimal. Add .2 belt armor to halve torp damage. And voila! You now have a Destroyer that goes 55 to 75 knts with great anti-sub capabilities! Just learn the art of manuvering around the sub so he doesn't torp you and you'll start having fun! Please note however, sonar does not work in Overheat. It's best if you see the sub when you attack. When all the subs are gone, wait for the late game and charge a BB. Even a bit of damage on a BB gives huge XP for a DD.

Have fun!

I too have enjoyed using the Oyodo as an ASW ship.

I've thought about writing a guide for the task as you can configure the Oyodo
several different ways to do the task(s)

For crew,  Sonar Op, DP gunners, TB pilots.

You configure the HH in R slots or T slots, your choice as there are advantages and disadvantages.       DP guns in the remaining slot.    DP gunners can do AA or fire at damaged surfaced sub depending on how you configure ship.

Various configurations:

ASW/SCT    TBs and a few SCT planes
ASW/AIR interdiction   TBS and a few fighters.   Your choice...locals or fighters
ASW/AA   All TBs and do AA
Pure ASW    All TBs, HH in T slots and Heavy guns in R slot.

You launch flites of 3 TBs to attack subs.   Best time is when your teams subs are fighting it out as the freindly sub sonar will light them up.

The enemy sub may crash dive and you may miss but even if this happens, you still cause problems for the sub.  Damage due to pressure and his movement drops to zero...using precious air.

If subs are all sunk or you can't see them...TB enemy ships.

Like the original Oyodo, you won't be able to duke it out with many enemy surface ships.
And since firepower is somewhat limited, it can be tough to take on a surfaced SS 5 or 6.
But, its a fun way to ASW.

Some more tips when sailing the Oyodo.

Keep your speed below 25knts when searching for subs.

Only use OH to get out off danger. When OH is used sonar needs recovery time.

Time your HH, Oyodo only have 4 launchers it can shoot at once.

Stay close to the BB line but give the BB´s room to do there fighting.

Check for enemy Fps before you lauch your Tbs.

Lower your Tbs hight as soon you dropped off your torpdo's to keep them save from enemy AA, it also make them land faster on your ship when they are at zero attitude.

To blind torpbomb a submarine keep in mind that most Submarine Cpts dont change course when they dived, I use my mouse pointer to track the submarine when it dives.

When your Tbs sudenly seems to lose AAW resistens replace your sonarman on a other support slot. ( this is a bug, much more notible when using a IJN Tb Submarine )

3 Tbs to sink a white bar submarine.

4 Tbs to sink a 1 gold bar submarine.

5 or more Tbs to sink anything better.

Its interesting to note that the original Oyodo idea by the IJN was a failure.   It was designed to be a scout ship for submarine flotillas.    It was to carry some scout planes especially designed for the ship but these planes were a miserable failure.   Supposed to be able to hold their own against enemy fighters, but the opposite was true.   Also, in the game, the Oyodo can launch 5 planes, but in reality, it could only handle 3 and not very well at that.

The idea was to vector subs to targets by using the scout planes which was fine for a non radar environment.   This was not the case as radar was used against the IJN.

So for the IJN, the Oyodo was a technical failure.   There was only one built.   There were plans to build a second one, but it was scrapped.

The Oyodo was converted to a HQ ship and saw very little action.

However, in the Navyfield game, using it for ASW comes very close to the original concept for the ship and it is fun to play  in this role.

Its about the only way I have real fun in NF these days.

Not all in oyo, but all in hybrids, thought you'd get a kick out of it.

And the best move you've ever seen with small numbers of TB's in GB.  :p
