You may have misunderstood what Eric and others were actually trying to tell you. While for most sailors you want to class on time, pilots can skip the "rookie" stage altogether because they gain NO benefit from being that class except that they can use recon planes. As Eric said, you actually lose rep/res ~ while almost nothing, can end up adding a tiny bit down the road.
So for example if you were making a fighter, you would level as special forces until level 40 which is when the fighter class becomes available. At that point you would go from Special Forces-> Rookie Pilot -> Fighter Pilot all in one go. No primary pilot ability lost - slight gain of repair and restore.
From what you have been saying that would have allowed you to use other weapons thus increasing your exp gain. The other issues the posters have had with you is that you seem to have no other sailors for using armaments. You should at least have some sort of gunners and be engaging in combat otherwise it's leeching. The standard way of leveling pilots for most people would be to fill up pilots on the support slots and the T-slot OR R-slot so you can still engage in some sort of combat.
