I'm working on a US carrier line culminating in a Midway class. Which sailors do you recommend I have in the end?
Better to ask now before i get under way than having to redo it later.

I haven't had MIdway cause my B.O is not high enough but If I have it i would configure them as following

:5 fighters, 3 Bombers, 1 restorer, 1 seaman, 1 medic

Remove the Medic and the restorer for sure, use a repairer and a engineer instead.
Your BO the seaman and either of those support crew should give enough SD by themselves to give 900 SD, making that restorer useless.
The medic has become useless on CV's after the no- veteran-death-from -flight-operations patch.

how many fighters depends on your playstile, the most common config for US CV5/PCV/CV6 is 6 Fighters and 2Bombers

on the other side scout 120 are being used in HA, and you maybe are not in a fleet and not playing HA right now, but how can u say where are u going to be when u reach CV6?

so a couple of US CV pilot for HA configs:

2 Scout 120 and 6 fighters
1 scout 120, 6 fighters 1 bomber
2 scout 120, 5 fighters 1 bomber
as sayed before, this are all HA configs, but HA is only a very small part of your total play...

a "normal" US CV configuration for gb will be more like:
7 fighters 1 bomber
6 fighters 2 bombers
5 fighters 3 bombers

for pilots you should go:
- fighter pilots: Elite fighters (ideal) or Base 12, no less than 109 vets (more are not needed as a "Must" for GB but they are for HA) and full expert - you should have min. 6 and max. 8-
- Bombers: not really need to buy elite, Base 12 bomber, normal 100 vets BVE works good from level 85-90, if u have Base 11 dont mind... on level 95-100 they will be doing his job just fine - you should have min. 2 (2TB will be the best choice here) and max 4 (2TB and 2DB) as with US CV bw its just stupid, also notice that US TB are way better in performance than DB -
- Scout Pilot: base 11 works fine and 12 great, no need for elite and 80 vet bve works in it. - raise 1 or 2, if u have an US BB6 use that scout and save the pain to raise to 120 a lvl 1 sailor -

for those 3 extra slots there are many options...
Seaman: base 12 fighter and good restore stat, BVE is needed - min 1 is a must. max 2 -
Repairer: base 12 with good base in restore BVE needed -1 optional -
Sonarman: dont waste your time, its way cheaper to use an escort DD wich will be spotting subs - 0 optional -
Gunners: Base 11/11 or 12/11 or 12/10 BVE, if u clased them on time they will fire HH speed and acc capped - 2, use them in pair, if u have a US BB gunners use those -
Restorer: Base 12, BVE, at lvl 120 a single restore will give u something between 400 and 550 SD. - 1 optional -
Engy: Base 12 BVE, not my favorite for CV, but it will help on GB - 1 optional -

once u reach 120 with your BO a good config for PCV is:
8 pilots, 1 seaman, 1 restorer and 2 gunners for HH

I would take a sonar, because you have HH with good reloads, and gradual firing, you can always fire PHH.

I doubt you will want the engineer, as he probably won't help you much in running away. And if you have to run, you either did something really wrong, or its the end of the game and you are screwed anyways. Instead, I would suggest that you get a seaman, and either a restorer and something else to reach 900SD, or two gunners to defend yourself against subs or other small ships that try to hump you.

Disagree support sailors are needed. I use my speed to keep up with the battle line or run from a sub, no sub can kill me with the first salvo and by the time they get a 2nd I am gone.

UK Midway set up
Pilots =7 pick your poison I run fighter heavy but that is my style.
2 engine (or 1 and add a pilot)
2 rep (or 1 gunner for HH)
1 BO
Top speed 47 knots with light armor

If you need a restorer to reach 900SD with a 115+crew then then V/E your enys and reps.

This is sound advice, I'd listen to him.
