  • Black Bars on side of screen

RedNemo
Hi everyone, I have a stupid question, i play NF on my laptop, and everything go fine. I have the two black bars on sides of the screen like anybody else  I think.
But, and thats the point, my brother, who also play NF on his laptop managed someway (we both dont know how) to make those two bars diseapear.
And there is my need of technical support, all the circles and fonts (who are a bit squeezed on my PC) go to look much better and more accurate.
Is there a way to do it on purpose? Even the ships and the angular speed of the guns seem more real.
Thanks for the attention you paid in reading this.

you should have the Nvidia control panel on your laptop. Find it (could just try searching in the windows 7 search) and open it.

Go to advanced settings.

Look for "scaling" in it

That image may help you - i'm not sure as the control panel has probably changed :s

oh, sorry I misunderstood AMD for ATI.

I can only suggest just going through each one and checking for anything related to scaling.

This is the general rule of thumb:

ATI/AMD:
Right-click on your Desktop >> Go to AMD VISION Engine Control Center >> Click on the "My Digital Flat-Panels" drop-down menu on the side >> Go to "Properties (Digital Flat-Panel)" >> Under Image Scaling, check off "Enable GPU scaling" and select "Scale image to full panel size" >> Apply

or if you have an older version and didn't update:
Right-click on your Desktop >> Go to ATI Catalyst(TM) Control Center >>Click on the drop down menu and go to "Desktops and Displays" >>Right-Click on the monitor you want to setup for MS and go to "Configure..." >> Under Attributes, check off "Enable GPU scaling" and select "Scale image to full panel size" >> Apply and ok

NVIDIA:
Right-click on your Desktop >> NVIDIA Control Panel >> Go to "Display" >> "Change flat panel scaling" >> Select the monitor you wish to setup for MS >> Under "2. When using a resolution lower than my display's native resolution...", select "Use NVIDIA scaling"

Intel:
Right-click on your Desktop >> Graphic options... >> Panel fit >> Scale Fullscreen.

I am going to go ahead and update my control center and see if I can give you more exact instructions.

Try this, Desolate:

First, change your resolution to something lower than native. Then activate GPU scaling and enable preserve aspect ratio. Apply. Then change resolution back to native. The 'preserve aspect ratio' option will grey out again, but it will still work. Just tried it on MoO2 myself. I noticed that it didn't work if I enabled GPU Scaling before lowering my resolution though.

Ok, now that's really odd.

1.Switched it down to 1280x800(or w.e it was)
At this point I went back and noticed that the "preserve aspect ratio" option had appeared in the lower resolution and was enabled.

2. Switched it to Fullscreen(disabling preserve aspect ratio)

3. went back to 1600x900 @ fullscreen

4. opened navyfield.. and it's now fullscreen.

Navyfield runs at a lower resolution. Everytime it would switch over to that resolution it would use the lower resolution option of "preserve aspect ratio".

Why the heck that made a difference and didn't use the selection from max resolution is beyond me but.. w/e... it works now.

Glad it worked.

Vikos

I´m going to resurrect this theme because a couple of reasons:

1. It should be marked as important one.

2. A little update for new NVIDIA control panels:

If you are playing on a laptop probably your NVIDIA control panel won´t have the display tab. This is the solution extracted from an NVIDIA forum:

Guys, I have finally found the solution for this kind of problem. I had this problem too and searched the net for answers and now I'm gonna show you how to play your game in full screen without touching the NVIDIA Control Panel. But make sure you also have the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel for we will change the scaling there. In the desktop, right-click and then choose Graphics Properties. It will open the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel window and there you can see the tabs. Just find the option where you can change it to Full Screen Scale.

It fixed the problem.
