  • Alaska and Guam

I'm not quite at this point yet but I want to ask for future reference.

Alaska speedcaps really easily (even without engies I heard). Guam still speedcaps quite easily I hear but not automatically.

I have a sensible suport set I'm lvling (3 Rep, 3 Eng, all at lvl) but they are not vetted and have only about 50 experts. I doubt I will  V/E them until the next event.

So my question is, will I be able to speedcap Guam and if not (i expect not), will I be slower than Alaska?

It seems to me the main thing Alaska has going for it is speed. I don't plan to use the 14" guns, and I don't think 1k DP will really help in GB, so I'm basically wondering if the Guam remodel is worth it if I can't speedcap it?

Thanks

While I do agree with Aingeal, I also agree it's Off-topic so let's leave it there.

I genuinely think the Guam, given its speed, will suit my playstyle (I have a B65 at the moment and that plays basically the same). I know it's widely considered a piece of junk but I don't see any other BB out there doing 47 knots. I do wish it had a tiny bit more range though... 31 is on the short side but I guess I need to practice my hit-and-run tactics in preparation for when I do have one.

BTW, I ran several ships on several lines with 2 binds of ammo and never encountered a problem. I'll run the Ls on the Alaska to start with and see how it goes. Still haven't even got Baltimore though >.<

Sodak can run 47

Fastest BBs in NF:

OPII: 49
Guam: 47-49 depending on crew true ability and weight
POW: 47
Sodak: 47
Iowa: 42
L1 (normal no armor): 44
L1 (Front guns only): 47
SY: 42
Alsace 42/44 depending on crew weight and true ability
Alsace 45/47 (Front Guns Only) Depending on Crew weight and true ability
Charlemange: 42

IF you looking for speed. There is plenty of ships to accommodate

Also you might as well use the 2 binds of HE with the Ls if your going to play GBs, you'll rarely run out of ammo before sinking.

my thoughts exactly =P

Never realised so many BBs can run 47, but at the same time I almost never see BBs set up like that. PoW and L1 I always see AW for a start. Usually I don't see any BB running more than 42 knots when I click on people.

you are definitely on the right track with this US line for this playstyle

at-level/ near-level, you will not run out of ammo with 2 binds especially since your reload has not capped and since you might spend some time recovering between rushes.

eventually (when I used my sodak crew on the guam) It seemed as if i ran out of ammo every game.

Also if you want it easier on yourself, scout out which GB games to play. Sometimes fleets bring 4 BB6 and thus BB5 to compensate so the overall powerlevel of the room is higher. Youll have a harder time getting into range.

Other times, especially off peak server hours, the rooms have a nicer curve topping with about 3-4 BB5 and enough BB123P to be able to challenge.

its O1 not O2 that reachs 29/49.

O2 ran reach 27/45 with either bismarck duals on all mount, or 2-gunned 3x14.96.

O1 reachs 29/49 with the first set of duals 14.96 (BB2 guns) or can also choose to use the lighter 11" and reach 30/51.

Gneis(1943) can reach 30/51 with the bismarck duals.

brucenemo
Guam's role/fun has diminished considerably since the old gb1 times.
20 bbs per room make it even harder for at level Guams.

I sure enjoyed more games consistently with Colorado vs the Guam.
