+1 Certainly, at least, during the early months of the war ... the allies in the atlantic could well have been "saved" by duds.

well yes, it does, but less in other nations. In KM there is a proxy dud rate of about 10%

As stated at least once before, the dud rate is relatively realistic. During WW2 the U.S. never really field tested the MK-14, and the brass didn't believe the submariners when they complained about the torp.
The Mark-14 was plagued with proplems, including running too deep, exploding prematurely, running in circles (even coming back to strike the ship that launched it), or just not exploding when hitting its target.
Part of the 'dud' problem came from the firing pin. A straight on, 90 degree hit would often fail to press the pin to the detonator. This problem had a small fix of trying to hit the target on more of an angle, or a 'glancing' shot. This tactic reduced the number of duds by neraly half.
I know this is a game, and I just spouted a bunch of RL history. I don't know how in depth Navy Field goes into reality with its torpedos. Though without even trying I usually don't hit my opponant straight on. I love my U.S. SS (currently Barracuda) and haven't run into too many dud issues. Sorry for the rant, just love talking torps.

...Thanks for necroing a completely worthless thread just to add technical detail to my statement.

lol, can you imagine being hit by a dud IRL? I imagine something like that must have involved a mass changing of underwear.
"Oh my god a torpedo... we're going to die!"
*thunk*
"Oh, ummm... nevermind."

Easy Solution
1- Know your torpedo Range and shoot torpedoes from your Max Range. 2- Have a good aimming and know the angles.
This way, you can reduce the duds, but it has a good chance your target will dodge your torpedoes, but the splash should do it.
