Unterseeboot Mannschaft Anweisungen

Willkommen bei der Kriegsmarine, Kommandant. Stellen sie ihre Mannschaft zusammen und treten den U-Booten der NFNA bei.

This is a guide for players starting their first SS crew. It does not set out to answer the more esoteric questions about true ability caps and the like. What it does is provides insight into which decisions are important to get right early on, and hopefully lets you see which decisions can be safely delayed. Mistakes in building a crew can take a lot of time to fix, and players often ask for advice so they don't make those mistakes. This is that advice.

(The guide itself is below.)

I used all my NF-X sailors as planesmen. Since you don't skimp on those, it's a better use of his impressive stats. In fact, I also left them as 2nd planesmen to boost repair and restore. It's still superior to an elite chief in air supply, but also has nearly 2900 base repair and restore (more if a nation with a boost there). The value there far exceeds that of any weight savings on other sailor types. In fact, it also stacks up fairly well against many repairers and restorers in overall stats there, and can be used as a decent replacement for those on other ships (like CVs)!

For sonarman, I advocate leaving him as 2nd all the way up. He'll cap either way, and repair and restore are far more valuable, especially at the lower tiers when the choice actually arises.

For torpedomen, it doesn't really matter. A +10 is more than adequate even if just left at 109 vets. The weight savings of higher stats useful but not that critical. If you really want them, a super elite with extra vets is fine.

For a BO, stats don't matter. You're going to skimp him horribly either way, so even if he had +20 everything, it still would barely affect your ship. Just roll a sailor and whatever you get is fine.
