It affects everyone, but I think something has to be done. I don't think a flat tax was the way to go about it though.

I am o.k. with the idea of emissions trading scheme I think although I haven't exactly looked deeply into the details of the suggested 2015 one so perhaps I shouldn't say.

Australia = 1.4 % of the issue

Gee when we fix our 1.4% the world will be safe.

"Australia’s per capita emissions are nearly twice the OECD average and more than four times the world average (see Figure 7.1)."
-garnaut review (2006)

The same trend was still present in 2009 and I am confident today...

Also keep in mind that Australia makes up 0.32% of the world population.

The fact that media and politicians change opinion and focus every month about the great threat must be a warning bell about the big lie. On top of it all false results that came from 'serious' secentists.

It's a fraud. Just a reason so they can take out tax for the air you breath.

actually the biggest point of contention is not if it is happening; it is what is causing it. You only need to go to area's such as Vietnam that have large amounts of low lying land to see that the water level is rising.

In the past decade or so there hasn't actually been a huge change in climate, but latest research seems to suggest this is because of all the coal that China has been using. When coal is burned it releases a sulphate into the air that makes our atmosphere more reflective (I.E. less sunlight reaches Earth's surface). However, after a certain period of time (let's say 10 years) we will start to feel the increased impact of this; also especially if China were to have an economic down turn (which seems not unlikely) they will use less coal, less sulphate particles will be released and the climate change will become more apparent.

As I said at the start though - whether that climate change we will be feeling is impacted by humans or not is seemingly down to personal opinion though.

I think an emissions trading scheme would work better though since it actually allows a cap to be placed on emissions rather than just charging by the ton and leaving it uncapped.

Mining will not last forever and it is silly to think having a mining based economy is sustainable. Not to mention it completely roots future generations (when our resources run out); regardless of whether climate change was caused by us or not.

I would not worry about it just yet a lot of scare monggering has been done just like that of the GST tax system now its still here and the same thing happened when medicare was introduced and its still the best system in the world for health as much as it may have floors in it, now the only thing wrong with the carbon tax is the size of it, it should of been lower like itroduced at $5 per ton for the first year and then have incraments +2.50 per year.

And as you would be saying why us first well some one has to take the bull by the horns and go for it hense skippy and the emu on the coat of arms they can't go backwards so forward we go, thus if we can do it then the rest of the world can't use a fieble excurse not to.

I don't understand why we have to have a carbon tax - why not go straight to an emissions trading scheme? They can still subsidise it at the start too...

Theres also the possibility if we go 1st and develop alternate energy technologies (solar, wind, gas, whatever) we can then sell that technology to the rest of the world when they get their taxes organised

It's funny, the federal ALP is rapidly becoming as defunct as the former QLD ALP...  I'm just waiting for the next federal election, so that when the Coalition makes it back into power, they will kill pointless (and money hungry) projects such as the NBN...
