  • UK BB Ranges(Outdated Since BB34 Patch)

ok, since I see too many ppl asking about the ranges of guns and tarrifs info is
outdated and not too accurate I will post my results here.
This is ONLY to compare the range of the UK guns I don't even provide you with an
absolute distance as I do not want this to become a flaming post about nation's
advantages, disadvantages and so on...
I tested every gun with 10 full salvos from my Lion's three guns at max angle,
shooting north, took 1 picture each and let my computer calculate a average
distance.

(And yes - contrary to the common misbelief, the average range is, what counts.
Higher gunners with less spread DO NOT shoot further then low level gunners. In fact, some
stray shells from crappy gunners will fall further ahead then they do if shot by a
blocking gunner - and.. my gunners block all guns anyways ;-)

update :
old gun ranges thrown out since nothing changed from the PBB patch to this one - except
the lvl120 guns.

Joelate, what are you talking about? The number you have for RP12 there refers to the
15"/42 Mk I, which dates to WW1 and was only in use on the Revenge, and is modelled in
game. The reason it has short range is because it has a 20 degree max angle.

The Queen Elizabeth class ships, along with Renown were refitted with the Mk II mountings,
giving them 30 degree elevation. The Revenge class ships were left with the 20 degree Mk I
mountings but issued with supercharges to compensate. HMS Hood was fitted initially with
modified mountings allowing a 30 degree elevation.

The Vanguard was fitted with remote power control for the turrets, hence RP12. RP12s
refers to this gun using supercharges, which is often quoted for Vanguard's range tables
though she was never actually issued with such charges, mainly because that kind of range
was not actually usable and just caused additional wear on the guns.

Range with standard charges was about 23,000m at 20 degrees, 30,000m at 30 degrees. With
supercharges, range was about 26,000m at 20 degrees, and about 33,000m at 30 degrees.

The 15"/42 were far from crap, they were easily the best British battleship gun ever
designed, when you look at real factors like reliability and accuracy. You can easily
point to guns like the Italian 381mm/50 and find they had much longer range, but they were
also much less accurate and had far greater barrel wear. The 15"/42 didn't compare well to
WW2 US designs like the 16"/50 Mark 7 on the Iowa, but personally I think it's amazing
that the guns were rushed through design in WW1 and yet were still among the best
available BB guns at the start of WW2.

Oh and lastly, the longest range hit ever scored by a warship on another moving warship
was Scharnhorst, with 11"/54, on HMS Glorious, at a range of about 24km. The second
longest range hit ever scored by a warship on another moving warship was by HMS Warspite,
using 15"/42 Mk II, on Guilio Cesare, at a range of about 23.75km. Going by actual combat
performance then, RP12 should be second in range only to KM 11". Except they aren't,
because both theoretical maximum performance and actual combat performance are both
irrelevant to balance in an online game.

Also, why did you list the 14"/45 Mk II from the 1914 Abercrombie class? Those were never
used in naval combat, they were for monitors. The 2x14" in the game are the 14"/45 Mk VII,
and performed identically to those in the quadruple mounting, which you correctly listed
at 35,260m.

range tests from different ships are a little bit more complicated and since everybody
wants to proove that his nation has the lowest range compared to others, I don't think a
test like that could be trusted.
At least people would start to raise doubts and it would end in flaming.
I might test other nations guns as well if I have the time and motivation for it as I
still have my old KM and Jap BOs- just no crew in the moment.

and I updated the picture now to include the lvl 100 guns which also represents the range
of the lvl115 guns that I just got...

i know this might be asking for too much, but, since ur in crusaders, get some of your
friends, and line them up, with each different gun, and take a pic. so we can see how they
compare vs UK guns

How about this, the lvl91L trip16" have less range on the nelson, also the rp12L
have more range on QE than they do on the repulse, imo people complaining about
these guns have nurfed them on certain ships, i put one rp12L and one N on the
front of the repulse and the same on the nelson and then you can see it, also i have
noticed the range and spread is different in a mission than it is in a regular battle.
Also the reload "cap" is different on each gun making the supposed reload time not
worth a damn...

Yes, the RP12L and RP12SL renges are basicaly correct... It seems that the better spread
of the RP12SL and faster reload makes up for it's heavier range... and little bit of
extra range can't hurt either- even if it is just that much(or little).

Wow,accordingly to this, why would u ever run with RPL12'sL and not just use the
66lvl RPL12, almost same range and less weight, hint hint more armour? Is this
correct Adalbert???
