  • Brooklyn vs CLs

I've read a lot of topics about the Brooklyn and I understood that it can be used
successfully as a DD killer. But most of the time the Blitzkrieg game contains only 4 or
max 6 DDs (and a lot of CL/CAs). If I use my Brooklyn as a DD killer, I always run into a
few CL/CAs which beat me hard. As a result I loose my biggest advantage: speed.

I was wondering whether it is possible to equip the Brooklyn in such way that it can be
used effectively against a CL/CA.

Any suggestions?

I ran the 2x8" LHE on my Brook and loved it. That setup will eat most CLs and some
CA's. Main thing to watch out for is the Mpro and a 2x8" Mogami. Both of those can
hold thier own. Just be smart with your shots. You get 40 salvos.

However... this setup will probably fail miserably on the new hobbit map. (Which is a
horrible map) You need room to run with this setup. A CL rushes you, you run. If he
is stupid enough to keep following you, then he will be an easy kill. DDs are also a
pain to kill with this setup because of the long reload. Keep an eye on the DD3s
especially. Be sure to disengage whatever you are fighting before they open up on
you. You will need time to kill them.

You could also try switching to LHE with the 6". It gives you a small advantage over
other CLs while retaining most of your firepower.

I don't suggest the 5" 54 cals on the Brook. If you want to use those, drop down to
the Oakland and use APC and high angle people to death. I would suggest the 2x6"
DP over the 2x5" 54 cal. The 2x6" DP is a solid gun.

Also ditch the armor. I ran 11" belt on my cleveland for fun, and it wouldn't even
block 5". Use just enough bulge to keep you safe and then use your speed.

He is suggesting it because belt works "all or nothing":

You either have enough to bounce or not, and, if you only armor up till you lose speed,
then you won't be able to bounce anything.

On the other hand, bulge, when hit by a torpedo gets the damage until it is reduced to
zero, when the hull starts taking damage too. So,an extra 2-3 bulge would reduce the
amount a torp (the first one only) does, but 0.2-0.3 extra belt would do nothing against
enemy shells...

Why adding bulge armor which only protects against torpedos and not against direct low
angle shots? If you go for an unarmored ship I would add some belt armor until the speed
drops. Belt armor helps good against direct low angle shots and also a bit against
torpedos. So belt armor is a win win solution in blitz.

>DBs in Blitz are useless against US AAW

You must be in wrong game. This is Navy Field, not Noob Field.

practice your dodging skill
DBs in Blitz are useless against US AAW
however
if you tried to be a DD killer
you do need armor
don't think about twin 8"
that's not usefull
keep practicing on your 6"

you would not really want torps on anything larger than a dd unless you are playing IJN.
good for close range defence but it does not teach you how to play range or to properly
defend yourself when you are in a larger ship

Seems like every ship uses this tactic now Amorgan. EVERYTHING is armored. Cant wait until
I get another CA so I can farm those noobs at a distance.

The most fun I have ever had while playing Navy Field was running the Brook in Blitzes. I
had the 5 trips, but I also equipped it with full torps on both sides. I would just shell
to death 1v1 any Cl and lower. Then if I was outnumbered or against multiple foes I would
launch a broadside of torps at them. I was insulted by soooo many CA's, but it was such a
fun time... and it worked, well.
