As the title says, KM ships just need more horsepower. Well, they need a lot of things, AA damage, Shell damage, H44 guns fixed, Fighter fuel fixed... etc. But those will never be addressed.
Currently, I run an H39, my speed after I've put the required about of bulge armor due to subs has me down to 22/33. I run with only 2 Engys, a restorer, and 3 repairers. I also use AA guns. I have 0.2 " of belt and around 160ish Bulge. No, it is not stupid to have some measure of resilence when subs can bounce my BB guns :|
Before complaints of 'herp derp, you're only suppose to put engies on KM ship' come rolling in, I have to point out to you that even if I had nothing but high-mid 80 engies I would gain only about 3-4 measly knts of overheat and maybe 3-4 seconds longer of OH. It's really not worth it when instead I can have excellent repair abilities to somewhat take some damage.
Km BB power plant III heavy with max displacement of the H39 is 2.63 P/W because of only 181500 Horsepower. Giving the KM BB III engine say, 220000 would bump it to 3.2 P/W. The effects of the better horsepower would be unbelieveably excellent addition so the navy.
Giving All KM engines between 20,000 to 50,000 more Horsepower would allow the only sliver of advantage KM has these days be maintained. Our guns are the weakest, Our ships with paper armor, Our battleship guns never able to block shot as well as none of them able to angle higher than 40. We don't even have the best AA guns anymore. Yes, they have fast reload, but don't have the longest range or best power.
The speed caps would still be there, of course. And I'm not asking to push those up. What I'm asking for is to allow KM vessels to maintain that speed superiority they're suppose to have.
