I play on kaiser sever splid, most of the friendly BB5's go north and support for south is generally thin so im used to being outnumbered don't  mean you have no chance to win, but sometimes when your CV runs north and you are camped you are a bit overwhelmed.  doesn't happen often just saying it CAN happen.

I always go south unless a bb6 with 1-2 bb5's go with it and then ill cover the other flank to balance it but sometimes they get stomped so yeah it just depends on how poor the support is sometimes.

Also when im usually surrounded is when im the last bb left because the rest of the team died off, i usually can kill a couple more bb's before i sink.

I definately agree with what you are saying in relation to Great Battles.  In GB, the chances of ANY ship being bumrushed at any point is quite high (especially with the appalling scouting and support offered by most players) and the H44 will definately suffer for that.

But in BB rooms (where the real balance of content shines) H44 is definately on top and these situations shouldn't arise until you are one of the last players left :)

Well, I fixed the hitbox, someone else can fix the guns :)

I know this will most likely sound stupid, but how big was the old H44? I've seen screen shots of it a few times but never got a real good comparison.
