I was going to post something about the US Navys new plan for the DD(X)
destroyers....however it appears it was renamed to zumwalt..... fail

They only cancelled the part that keeps it balanced, as far as I can work out. The main body
retains, but the bottom bit is changed to the one Emma posted.

Oh, and to all you Arleigh Burke supporters, respect. It's a superb DDG, and really is the
representation of real 21 century ships. I was reading something about it the other day, and
it had 70km range (the Iowa only has 40km). Amazing how technology has gotten 60 years
later.

Why would you consider it to have limited capabilities?

Actually have just a displacement of DD,a bombastic named(DD) for the limited capabilities.

Last I heard the Zumwalt class was reduced in number to 3 but not totally canceled

It is pretty ugly. But its first generation, give it some time to get refined. Not that
aesthetics matter in combat anyway.

I'm sure we'll see more like the Zumwalts when there's a need for a stealth
destroyer. I think it was a good decision to build more Arleigh Burke's, they're good
value for the money.

When the Chinese start thinking and building a blue ocean navy there will be more
call for such expensive warships. They'll have to redesign future stealth ships to
incorporate a realistic rail gun armament anyway. Its on the horizon.

i bet that the community of the 1930s and 40s thought that the ships we play with
in NF looked unconventional and ugly. its only the next step in naval evolution.
