They did not remove the ability of unions to collect dues.

They made it optional for people in the unions to be forced to pay dues. I live in a very
heavy union state and many people in the unions get upset about what the unions spend
their money on. Now if they don't like it they don't have to pay the union.

And if I remember correct it allows people to get a job without joining the union at that
location. Before you couldn't get some jobs unless you joined the unions and payed the dues.

This upsets the unions because they lose their monopoly. It upsets the democrats because
unions paid them tons of money which they will now have less of.

It's actually a very common sense bill.

I don't. it's gone far beyond simple "we're saving money" excuses. when they include
measures such as "Unions will be barred from collecting union dues from public sector
employees", it's instant proof that it's union busting by the State Government above
and beyond any potential savings. I'm sure the Corporate benefactors insured he and
the republicans were well greased in the last state election in terms of campaign
contributions, and have been lobbying for these changes, as opposed to any that
would hurt their own financial interests (the owners & CEOs) at the expense of the
workers.

not that I'm saying Unions aren't perfect, I've been in a couple of Private Sector ones,
and while I don't agree with how some of the Public Sector ones operate (from a
taxpayer and user of services perspective), simply taking the axe to them as a collective
whole isn't the solution, no matter how "dire" things are made out to be.
