  • A question of AA: Emerald vs. Furious

What exactly are the benefits of a Furious CA over the Emerald as an AA ship? I've seen
people saying that the Furious is a decent AA escort, but I can't for the life of me
figure out why.

What I can tell is:

Furious:
* T-slots are a lot easier to aim with than R's
* Can mount a real armament as opposed to the Emmy's guns
* One extra crew position
* CA shared exp. as opposed to CL

Emerald:
* Twice the broadside strength
* More binds of ammo
* Smaller target
* Can perform ASW work as well

Given the only real bonus to AA that the Furious has over the Emerald would be the ease of
aiming with T-slots (the other bonuses don't actually affect AA capability), and the Emmy
can be an ASW ship in a pinch, I don't understand the use of the Furious unless you want
to play with the big boys and ninja a battleship to death, in which case AA is no longer
your ship's priority.

emerald is a good "pure AA only" ship whilst the furious is a more well rounded and
less specialized version of it. Also, the furious does get a massive benefit from using
the UK 15's.

as you point out

If you are deciding to do Serious AAing get The UK ECL

Furious
when you Mount 15 inch guns in ship a size bigger than a UK BB3
get ready to be hit by mountains of 16s and 11s as your ship is a BIG BIG target and
the guns on the furious will be almost the same with the exception of the PG which
comes along with the PCA and A KGV With Quads can easily sink you with a few
shots as your ship is a big target And Avoiding top walls will be a problem when
rushing to the front line to cover BBs in the back

That may be true but its not that big a difference compared to the other PCAs.
Having the highest damage output from the other PCAs makes it a line fighter to
punish rushes or very deadly if not targetted when counter rushing.

Everyone knows that the Furious is far and away the worst PCA.

Let's just say, I strongly don't recommend classing to 2nd from armament sailors unless
you really really can't stand it anymore. From Arm. Sailor to 2nd, you lose 7 points per
level in reload and you gain 1 crew growth per level. Each point per level has a factor of
1 in the true ability equation and assuming you put your 1 extra crew growth into an
expert, it's still a factor of 1. It won't balance.

Assuming you have 109 vets and all experts, you can class your AA gunners at level 50 and
will probably hit reload cap by level 120. Anytime before then, and you'll never cap.
Leaving them to level 120, you'll get about 200 less crew on your AA gunners but your
reload ability gained through all those levels outweigh the importance of your crew.

As long as the true ability formula holds true:

That data 2/3 of the page down will hold true.

Ziro, I was too impatient and classed mine at lvl 68. They are 11/11 acc/reload base
boosted full experts 109 vets and it finally reached the reload cap at 116. I'm not
too sure about the difference in sailor growth from armanent to 2nd AA but I would
also recommend everyone to bear as long as you can without classing until at least
lvl 70.

One tip. Leave your reloaders, as armament sailors until as long as you can bear. I left mine until 75. They're
good but could be better if you leave them for longer.
