Now that the SN has been introduced testing can move on to look at the MN balance and
whether anything needs adjusting in there. We have had this nation for a year and some
minor tweaks have been done; however, starting next Friday (25th March 2011) there is
an
opportunity to test some different settings and to propose a change for the main servers
if required. The test period will run for approximately a month to 6 weeks.

Sailor information and accounts will be reset each Thursday or Friday as appropriate.
Normal testing rules to apply.

So, please start a discussion here on what changes you would like to see tested for the
MN
and we can start building the first test patch for next week.

----------------------

There has been some comments on the way SN was discussed and implemented.

Therefore, we will be doing things a bit differently with the MN balance.

First of all, this will be a project where we will tweak MN balance. We will not create a
total new balance.

Also there will be a lot more discussion before any changes are implemented.

I will be making seperate topics for the seperate ships to prevent to much confusion.

We received a number of proposals from different sources. I will post those ideas in those
topics also for discussion.

giving MN fighters more fuel and nerfing everything else makes little to no sense as its
just giving them glorified scout (which is almost what IJN fighters are right now)

i honestly feel they are fine aside from their high speed which needs to be balanced to
fit the other nations. they dont feel to much different from the KM fighters (which im
assuming is the intent as they bolth have the same fighter ability)

Making them what they arnt isnt a part of this. Good fighters and well balanced bombers
seems to be something dosnt it?

I would like to see the MN CVs keep something that makes them unique. How about
fuel? Make all their stats average to poor but give them the best fuel range?

"...the bug regarding plane sprite and shadow needs to be fixed."

This annoys the hell out of me and really needs to be fixed.

Leave the planes and bombs as is.
Thats whats special about mn, that is their strength.
If you move them back with the other nations why get mn?
Why not make one nation for all the cv's if the stats are all the same?

Just some of my thoughts.

First thing is first, there needs to be some sponsored rooms by TNF/SDE on either the main
servers or the test servers in order for people to "re-get" a feel of the ship balance.

That means Normal rooms for tier based selection.

As long as the fighter and bomber stats are brought in line with anything, you can't go hugely
wrong, as pretty much everyone admits the CV's need a complete reworking after the last major CV
patch. On top of that, some coding changes still need to be made (imo); the main one being how
sight range ties into attack range.

Also, scout adjustments and the bug regarding plane sprite and shadow needs to be fixed.

BB wise, I hope we don't go down the route of NFEU. They really seem to have destroyed the nation
(at least at BB5 level). I think we can all agree, MN have the following national traits:

+ Small Ship Size
+ Ship Speed
+ Above average damage
+ Long Range AA

= Average Turning Force
= Spread (i.e. not blockshot, but not shotgun either; A number of ships need spread buffs)

- Range
- Poor damage AA
- DP (health)
- Poor Shell Penetration

-------------------------------------------

I think using the Alsace as a baseline (as the BB5's are the most difficult to balance due to the lack
of space for ranges), it is mainly fine. It needs a spread buff, and an ammo buff (with displacement
changes to compensate for it).

The BB3/4/6 do seem very poor. I think the BB6 was balanced incorrectly, it was given too worse
spread, too much damage and too little speed.

Support slots also need to be looked at too.

Might as well add my 2 cents.

The MN BB1 and 2 were seriously overpowered when i leveled my MN crews.

However once i got the Strasbourg i realized the good times were over -.-

Strasbourg needs a serious buff
Either : increase range slightly and add useful AA
or : give it better spread hitting power and ammo

Richeleu's main problem is ammo, its far from enough, just like the yamato back in the day,
Otherwise i think it could use slightly better damage. Compared with UK,US,Ijn it really
sucks in that regard.

Oh and while i used the paris and lorraine (2 BB Bo's) until i got the richelue (and still
prefer the paris over the Richeleu lol) i think they both need to be nerfed. In the hands
of an experienced player they`re deadly to almost anything.

Good point on separate threads Lj. Not had chance to study each post yet, but
seems there is some good debate to be had. We do not have to use anything other
than where we are currently as the starting point, but if there is some good
elements from other work done elsewhere that can inform our own deliberations
then no reason not to raise that here.

Using this pic

We can see KR/NA stats. I agree with Willg that a more reasonable approach has to be taken
with MN in light of a years play. The buff to SU db's at 2957 is a % figure calculated
from other nations which makes alot of sense and also places them ever so slightly over IJN.

If we were to use the same calculation for MN as the SU's (2957) bomb damage then it would
be as stated earlier in the 2700~ range however I dont see why we cant give MN dbs a bomb
damage in the range of 2850~2900 and slot them into third place behind SU/IJN and ahead of KM.

KM DB damage is 2819 and IJN is 2947, I would have MN slot in the middle of these. With
the SN DB buff, MN DBs won't be anywhere near the best, I'm not sure why everyones whining
at me saying 2900.
