The goal of this guide is to teach players how to effectively use AA guns for ships
of the United States Navy. Before continuing, please note that this is not a
comprehensive view: this is simply my own perspective and advice. Different people
will advocate different approaches towards using AA; anyone who feels that they
disagree with me are fully in their right to do so. However, based on my experience,
I believe that this is one of the most effective ways to utilize USN AA.

Note: for another approach towards AA, please read Cubone85's AA guide:

http://www.animemarketv2.net/AAA

While it's different from my approach, Cubone himself is also a highly skilled AA-er,
so heeding his advice in place of mine has its benefits.

This guide is divided into eight parts:

A. Introduction
B. Basic pointers for beginners
C. Basic Tactics
D. Important factors for AA
E. An evaluation of feasible AA guns
F. Which ships can best use AA
G. An escort's guide to protecting their charge
H. Advanced tips and tactics

I may add an FAQ at a later point if warranted, but for the time being, this guide will
consist of only the above eight parts.

The generally accepted platform for the 6" DPs are the Brooklyn and the Cleveland. Though
if you're feeling crazy you could strap those onto your New Orleans.

What exactly are high-level US AAW gunners good for? And, if one uses the
Atlanta->NorthHampton->New Orleans->Bogue route, what ship can reasonably fit the 6" guns?

I've tried fitting those things on the Oakland. They work great...if you don't mind
running out of ammo after ten volleys. There has to be a better platform for those monster
guns...

so would i need a u.s. reload gunner to use my aa guns. the aa guns are all the
same, they all have loaded ammo too.

Could be one of several problems. Using guns that your AA gunners don't have the required
level for, using A type guns with non-AA class gunners, don't have ammo loaded, don't have
all the proper guns, take your pick.

Thanks for the guide lordkelvin, I have always noticed that you have come to the rescue
of the Oakland when haters have bashed it for its gun angles.......... I have a BB and
am making my way down the US CV line, but the Oakland will always be my favorite ship (for
its AA and HAing) and has a special place in my heart!!.

Guesstimate. I semi-cheat now and use both the angles and red guidelines to aim nowadays.
If I see a plane obviously flying below default height, I set my angle to a preset bracket
for the guessed height and fire a burst or two. If it doesn't catch, I see whether it flew
over or under, and adjust as needed. If you have a scout, then you can also be a cheap
bastard and use it to drag the enemy scout into your AAW to do the work for you.

But how do you know what height are the aircraft?

Nice guide! Maybe SDE should use some of that premium item money to hire you to
write a manual that is not a translation and is actually based on the game.
