I'll tell you, its a tough call to make. There has been times were I sit the 5-8 minutes for a game. Wait again for 2-3 minutes for the battle to develop, watching where both sides subs deploy, then wait again for them to finish, then have all the subs sunk and end up being a leech. Its not a great feeling, but I let them go if they have the tactical edge.
What I'm talking about is when I'm already committed to making a move on the sub. I've fired a round of HH that wounded it, and I'm bearing down on it and I'm starting the first of the DC drops. Suddenly, I see the friendly SS firing a spread and moving in.
Its now too late; if I turn off from my run, I'll eat the torps from the enemy SS. If I don't turn off, I eat the torps from my own sub (remember, I'm right on it and my own SS is shooting torps at it) I've already got DCs in the water, so the friendly SS is probably going to take a beating. Now the only choice I can possibly make is if I should give the SS the second round of DCs that I know its needs to finish it.
If I don't, then it will live and a spread will be coming my way. If I do, then the stupid teammate is certain to get smoked. I'm so frustrated with this behavior (it happens constantly) that I don't know what else to do. I suppose I could create a macro that gives them a warning to stay away. But I know what will happen, they'll cry that I shouldn't be there or that I was reckless, when in reality it was selfish behavior on their part that started the whole thing. I'm starting to think that along V2s lines. If I let them have their way, then there really is no point to playing ASW at all. If they are going to be stupid and move in (and one did it after I even warned him) then maybe they need to learn. One of the more prolfic sub drivers writing about this topic is even giving out bad advice on ASW in a thread.... its annoying to say the least.
