  • USN Battleships Guide

LordKelvin
So, with all the spare time I have on campus doing nothing (not to mention the frustration
of rarely ever fighting a worthy opponent in-game whenever I even bother to play), I
thought that I'd spend some of that spare time writing a USN BB guide.

First and foremost, the reason that I'm writing this isn't because Ar2's guide sucks, but
rather that it's horribly outdated, plus it has no information at all on the Northampton line
of BBs (well, I guess that could count under certain definitions of "suck"). The objective of
this guide is to remedy that problem and provide players with an up-to-date source for
using a USN BB. Not necessarily better information, since Ar2 has far more experience
playing than I do, but at least more coverage and updated.

And since I've provided and updated information for more than a single sticky *cough*,
you get to have the privilege of scrolling down to the next post to read what I have to
say.

I think I just had a blinding flash of the obvious on 12" vs 14" shells. The 12s only
come into their own at higher angles. It's rather dramatic if you're playing with the
test mission BBs. 2000 damage at max angle, which declines down to 600-800 (maybe lower)
until you start hitting belt. At which point it climbs up to ~1200-1500. Meanwhile, 14s
top out around 1700-1800, and are over 1500 damage in a fairly large range. Especially
when they're hitting belt.

Short version: If you're using the 12" shells, try to stay at range (to the extent that US
ships have any). Otherwise, you risk hitting like a CA... without the ability to block.
If you're using 14" shells, getting in close doesn't hurt your damage.

To the SONS for being among the best players on NF. I myself went through the
whole LONG painful battles but even then the Nevada could surprise. Mind you the
patches came right after I got to the Tenny 41 so I am among the last of the SONS.
And thank you Lord Kelvin for you are one of the best.

And I thought skill was alternating T and R slots to shoot that BB from afar as well
as that pesky dd up close in between the long reloads and then switching to
AA/golden angle to shoot down down the incoming bombers and back to HE to finish
off the DD all while zigzagging and using a touchpad...

With the BB345 patch, the USN A-type guns are supposed to get better, but AA
Gunners themselves will still be sub-par. Besides, the NLD's give you HE diversity...
Whats funner than switching to T slots to finish off that last CV, thereby increasing
the chance of getting experts/points *evil grin*

Outstanding guide overall... Excellent work LK
