As all my "formula-posts" have been recently bumped, I was approached to put
them all into one post so it could be stikied... here it is.

These guides contain advanced information. If you are just starting to play the
game please go ahead and read Obst's guides on www.nf-guides.com. That
webpage gives you all the information you need to start with. If you have done that
and
are still curious about some details, go read ahead.

Since it has quite some information, I divided it into several parts, that are posted as
replies by myself.

0) Ability - how they are calculated / base stats
1) BO's Potential - guideline length / marking distance
2) Accuracy - where's the cap, how is it calculated
3) Reload - where's the cap
4) Torpedo - reload cap
5) AAW - chance of shooting down planes at horizontal and vertical distances with
auto fire
6) Repair - Repairrate and Burnrate
7) Restore - SD
8) Engine

. D - natural overheat speed
. E - overheat speed with crew

Also if you think that you have found a mistake, please contact me directly as it most
probably will just be a misunderstanding and I don't want an obsolete discussion in
this post as it just blows it up and might scare ppl away.
I have not included all "proof" in this post - if you are looking for some numbers how
I came up with the formulas, feel free to look for my old posts from between 2005
and now,
and you will find more information in there.

It took me an hour and a half but I made up a hella-sloppy Excel chart to crunch engineer
numbers in.

There is hope for my Yamato. There isn't hope for my O-Pro II.

indeed they speak of vets beeing 2.5 times as efficient as experts only - that for sure is
different on our server, although until early 2006 we believed in the 2.5 factor too.

I tried repair rates with several different setups and the main point is, that repair stat
of all sailors aboard stacks linear. There is no penalty whatsoever on having 1, 2 or 6
reps because the BO, engis or even gunners and the scout repair 100% according to their
true repair ability.

After doing some more calculations, I wanted to ask if you need any additional help on the
Repair formula. I remember reading that someone on the Neo server figured out that
stacking Repairers also has a penalty like with stacking Engineers, something like 100%
--> 90% --> 80% or so. It came from a Japanese wiki on the game apparently, but I'm not
sure how accurate it is given that the caps might work differently on Neo. I'll try to
find the original source, since I last saw it posted and translated on the Big EXP AZ
forums, but since it got disbanded...

So, not sure how good it is, but it might be insightful to know how it scales over there
since it might be similar here.

yes, thanks Kelvin... you and 2 others were the only ones that did send me something
though - until SoloAD and UmbralRaptor stepped in. That's when I decided to post the results.

I just found that particular one funny enough for others to laugh as well... So do me a

Hmm, I just looked at this thread after a long time...

I'm very happy to see that you finally found out how Engys stack. I hope that the
data that I provided helped you to do that. :)

The speed cap is a ship's non-overheat speed (typically fully loaded, although depending
on setup, there may be spare displacement) multiplied by 1.7 and rounded down.

AFAIK, only C-values for USN ships have been found:
